This is a foil die.

The technique is old, but it’s still used where the bar is set highest.

Physically manufactured for pressure, heat, and registration, it belongs to a foundational process that hasn’t been replaced.

For good reason. The results continue to stand out.
Once the job is finished, the die disappears.

Can you spot the difference between these two spreads? Maybe? No?

That's okay! Most can't with the human eye, and that's why we have this tiny little tool called a “loupe.” Not sure what that is? Let's get in the loupe.

If you were to look through the loupe, you would see that the side with the flowers is CMYK and therefore has a rosette pattern. All of these little rosettes of dots are screened/overlaid, and when they are all combined, they make up all of the full-color images in print. We print our full-color images on the best presses available just to make sure that these little dots are as perfect as possible.

The second side that says “we love dots” is printed with a full bleed of a spot color with a foil overlay. This means that no dot patterns are necessary at all to make up the image (other than the ones in the foil). And that's really one of the many benefits of spot colors.
