Every custom piece begins the same way.

A blank board.
A sketch.
A few uncertain lines.
A lot of paint.

Then, little by little, it becomes something more.

A name.
A story.
A piece made for one specific person.

And then comes my favorite part and the hardest part at the same time.

Letting it go.

Because handmade pieces aren't really finished when the paint dries.

They're finished when they leave the studio and become part of someone's life.

This sunflower board started as a blank piece of wood on my work table.

Today it begins its next chapter as part of someone's home.

And that is exactly what it was made for.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone notices the little things.

The extra layer of paint that makes a petal feel brighter.

The tiny details around the center of a flower.

The brushstrokes that disappear into the finished piece but help create the final look.

Then I remind myself why they matter.

When someone asks for a custom piece, they aren't just ordering paint on wood.

They're trusting me with something personal.

Their name.
Their gift.
Their story.

And when someone places that kind of trust in my hands, the little things become worth the extra time.

Five years ago I met the unofficial welcoming committee for summer. ☀️🐿️

He seemed suspicious of my presence.

I was suspicious of his.

We eventually agreed to coexist. 😄

One of the things I love most about spending time outdoors is that nature always seems to have a surprise waiting.

Sometimes it's a beautiful flower.

Sometimes it's a colorful sunset.

And sometimes it's a squirrel who appears to have important questions and very strong opinions.

Little moments like these have a way of turning an ordinary day into a memorable one.

There is a moment in almost every project when something shifts.

Before that moment, it's just wood, paint, sketches, and ideas.

Then suddenly...

You can see it.

Not the finished piece, but the finished vision.

For this sunflower board, it happened when the blank board disappeared and I stopped seeing supplies.

Instead, I saw her name.

Her flowers.

The piece that was being created specifically for her.

That's usually the moment I know a project is going to work.

Not because it's finished.

But because it finally starts feeling alive.

Most people see the finished paint.

What they don't always see is everything that happens before the first brushstroke.

For this sunflower board, the painting was only one part of the process.

Before paint came:
🌻 Lettering decisions
🌻 Flower placement
🌻 Composition adjustments
🌻 Digital layout testing
🌻 Figuring out how all the pieces would work together

The digital design became the plan.

The painted board became the interpretation.

That's one of my favorite parts of creating custom pieces—watching an idea move from a screen, to a sketch, to something you can actually hold in your hands.

So if I had to answer the question...

Some days are for accomplishing.

Some days are for healing.

Some days are simply for being.

In a world that constantly asks for more, it can be easy to forget that rest has value too.

The flowers do not rush to bloom.

The seasons do not hurry to change.

And we do not have to carry everything at once.

If today felt heavy, complicated, or unfinished, let this be a gentle reminder:

You do not have to do everything today.

You do not have to solve everything today.

You do not have to become everything today.

Sometimes, letting today be enough is enough. 🌿💛
