Cotton Street Apparel turned 19 this week.

It’s pretty wild to look back at where this started in 2007 as Machine Gun Graphics and compare it to where we are today.

There have been recessions, COVID, equipment purchases that took forever to install, a building purchase, a complete rebrand, plenty of mistakes, plenty of wins, and a whole lot of figuring things out as we went.

Somehow, through all of it, we just kept moving.

We put together a little look back at the last 19 years. From the early shop days to the business you know today as Cotton Street Apparel.

19 years. Still here. Still moving. Still building.

Thanks to everyone who has been part of it along the way.

And don’t worry — we’re saving the really obnoxious celebration for year 20. 😂

Hope is taking root in Winston-Salem, and we were pumped to play a small part in it. 🌼

Invasive Hope is Winston-Salem’s monumental dandelion public art installation along Salem Parkway. Created by a local team of artists, architects and fabricators, the dandelion was chosen to represent the people of our city: persistent, resilient and able to keep growing, even through adversity.

From the bright yellow blooms to the seeds of the white dandelion puff, the installation tells the story of hope spreading, evolving and carrying forward into the next generation.

We were incredibly excited to help bring another piece of this project to life by producing the Invasive Hope tees right here at Cotton Street Apparel. Watching these shirts move through our production floor made this project feel even more special.

The finished tees are now available inside Camel City Goods. Come grab one and wear a little piece of Winston-Salem’s newest public art story.

One of our favorite traditions is getting to host Print Camp with Summit School

For the third year in a row, students visited our shop here in Winston-Salem to learn how screen printing works. From touring production, to seeing the equipment, to understanding the process, and finally printing their own shirts.

What we love most is watching the moment it clicks.

They see that a T-shirt is not just a T-shirt. It starts with artwork, screens, ink, setup, pressure, timing, teamwork, and a whole lot of problem-solving. Then they get to pull a print and realize they made something real with their own hands.

Several students even asked if they could have a job one day, which absolutely made our day.

We believe it matters for kids to see creative trades up close. Screen printing is art, production, manufacturing, design, and craftsmanship all working together, and it is so fun to share that with the next generation through meaningful partnerships like this one.

Thank you, Summit School, for trusting us with your printing and for letting us be part of Print Camp again this year. We’re grateful every time.

Before New York had the Empire State Building, Winston-Salem had the dad. 🏙️

Completed in 1929, our very own Reynolds Building helped inspire its much taller and slightly more famous offspring in New York City.

Local legend says the Empire State Building sends its architectural father a card every Father’s Day. We assume it says:

Thanks for the great genes. Sorry I got all the height. 😁
