Best of luck to and folks’ efforts to bring pro baseball to the Triangle. Have long thought NC should be a Big 4 (pro teams) state with clubs evenly split between Charlotte and Raleigh. As much as I enjoy the Knights, MLB in Raleigh just makes more sense. Looking forward to seeing if their efforts materialize.

Now that the school year is winding down, here’s hoping for some time to get back into some old pages in the sketchbooks over the summer. Also, I had no clue the NHL had a semifinal round set (still mourning the Pens’ first round exit).

I’m still working on this series of ice-smoothing, tractor-driving monsters for fun. Presently I’m working on draft 2 of illustrating Carolina (pirate skeleton); he’s the first almost-human I’ve decided to tackle in this second rough draft round.

Meant to post this sooner. A number of vignettes didn’t make the final draft for the NCCF cover, but this homage to Merlefest was in my mind from the jump. Here’s hoping all had a great time, and fingers crossed we can make it over to Wilkes County for the next one.

Going ahead and posting this Titans set I’ve been tinkering on before the tidal wave of (new logo and such) takes later this week. No, wasn’t trying to guess the new look (I know they’re going roundel). Yes, just having fun (Beavis voice: Fire! Swords!)

Crossbar in the A is the state and sword/ball has a drop of oil (Oilers) for you Easter eggheads.

Enjoyed nerding on the numbers. Waffling on the flame tested my patience with myself.

Every time the Falcons where their red helmets, I open the same concept file, do 5 minutes of tinkering, and close it. Still like this modern vintage take for their bird.

: Saw the local hockey team goes by T-Birds now. I’m old enough to remember the Polar Twins and thought an implied capital T made from twin birds could be fun. No clue if the fact they’re holding a hockey stick would run a-fowl of trademark issues, but thought this could look sick redrawn in red Sharpie on the back of a denim jean jacket. Mullet optional.

: Saw posted an open call for some art and then reconsidered. OOH…”contests.” I had the same thoughts as others. OTOH I get that Camino wants to tap into a creative pool that might otherwise get overlooked. “How do you find art folks to partner with proper if you can’t find them?” It can be a pickle for everyone at the table.

Mudcat Man is from a personal project and was not contracted by MLB or Mudcats ownership. I was imagining a cleanup of their branding and did a riff on the Milwaukee Brewers “Barrel Man.”

In light of the day’s news, I’m bringing back some type I set from 12 years ago. I respect the focus on humility Francis brought to his role and hope the next pope pushes further an agenda of compassion.
