Believe it or not, there are still some old-fashioned business owners out there that think that as posting pics on their page is all it takes for customers to line up outside their door. Well, maybe that’s worked once for one lucky duck, but for the other 27.9 million small businesses out there, the process involves a little more “thinking.”

The only way to determine if your content is successful or not is to analyze what performed the best and worst to determine how to get more engagements, better leads, and ultimately, more customers. But what exactly should you look for in the search for social media success? Here’s a basic list:

-Your content: Go through your social media pages once a week and see what content did well and what didn’t. You can craft your future posts similarly to what posts did well before to draw in more fans

-Your business: Try to find mentions of your business’s name on social media and find out what people are saying about you. This is a good way for you to find out what people like and don’t like so you can make improvements. It’s also a good way to engage with people. You can respond to comments and try to resolve complaints so you can retain customers.

-Your audience: Figuring out what kind of people like or mention your brand can help you improve your social media presence. You can find out what kinds of posts they like to see (videos, images, links) and increase those kinds of posts. You can also figure out what kinds of hashtags or keywords to use to attract more people.

Can’t say we’re surprised by the significant increase in video marketing performance. 87% of all marketers now incorporate some type of video advertising into their social media strategy. With such a high percentage, it makes sense that ⅓ of all online activity is spent watching videos. For the final stat that definitely shocked us the most - Social Video generates 1,200% more shares than text and images combined!

As homosapiens, our DNA is wired to enjoy a great story! People will not connect with your advertising efforts if there’s nothing unique about it. That is why, showcasing behind-the-scenes related content has proven to be much more effective than any advertisement being boosted online. Give readers a reason to invest their time into your story. Make it detailed, make it personal, make it yourself! We’re inclined to trust another human than we are with a personality-lacking brand. Believe it or not, big brands tend to struggle more with their online advertising efforts than small business owners.
