Writing for your own business? 🧐This quote is the ULTIMATE copywriting tip 🙌

Your customer isn't looking to buy features. They want SOLUTIONS.

Take a mixer, for example.

Sure, It might be awesome that your mixer has 15 attachments or 5 speeds.

But that's not why you want a mixer in the first place.

You want to make a fluffy birthday cake 🍰

Or whip up fresh whipped cream (WITHOUT hurting your wrist).

People are way more concerned about how you can fix their PROBLEMS than they are about your product's bells and whistles.

So, sell them the solution they want. Not just the product.

Readers LOVE questions ❤️ And you probably use them in your writing ALL the time.

But do you know these 4 common types of questions?

🔹Closed Questions

Closed questions have a simple, direct answer. Its usually 1 or 2 words (including yes or no)

🔹Open Questions

Open questions make you think. This type of question can't be answered with yes or no. It takes more explanation.

🔹Rhetorical Questions

Rhetorical questions aren't really questions at all. They have no answer. Instead, they're used to make a point. And they're EXTREMELY persuasive.

🔹Leading questions

These questions LEAD your reader to an answer, usually with a positive or negative spin. They also can help you get a response. See what I mean?

Have you noticed that a whole LOT of captions start with questions?

Yeah? Why is that?

It's because questions dig their HOOKS deep down into your audience!

When you read a question — like say, what did you have for breakfast? — your mind IMMEDIATELY tries to come up with an answer.

And if it can't? You're going to be more likely to keep on reading to find one.

Adding open-ended questions to your writing is a SUPER EASY way to keep your reader engaged.

BUT! BE CAREFUL.

You should NEVER ask your audience a question you can't answer. If YOU can't answer it, your reader sure as hell isn't going to be able to either.

Are you being AUTHENTIC in your and ? TRULY authentic to yourself or the brand you're working with?

No?

Well, then listen to this advice from the great . All good writing HAS to come from truth — about yourself or the business.

So be authentic, tell your (or your brand's) truth, and your writing is SURE to improve.

(P.S. If you haven't heard of Anne, go check her out ! Her writing is a MASTER CLASS on unapologetic authenticity)

FRUSTRATED AGAIN trying to dream up new newsletter content?

Don't worry, We've ALL been there. Probably too many times to count 🤪

Next time you're feeling stumped, give one of these 5 content ideas a try.

👉 Employee Spotlights
Try taking 10-15 minutes to interview an employee that makes your business ✨shine✨. Even asking a few basic personal questions — like favorite hobbies or products — can help customers feel connected to your staff.

👉Top 5 Blog Excerpts
Not every reader has been around since the start! Try highlighting your top 5 blog posts or some all-time favorites with short excerpts. You’re sure to engage new readers and remind older fans why they LOVE your content.

👉 Customer Q&A's
The BEST research you can do is by talking with your audience. We can guess what they want to hear 🤔, but we never actually know until we ASK! Ask some of your regulars what questions they have about the business. They'll surprise you 😮

👉Letter from the CEO or President
If you think talking to the CEO or President of a company is INTIMIDATING 😱, imagine how your customers feel! Squash that assumption by adding a personal and conversational letter to your next company update.

👉 Stats & Infographics
Did you know infographics are LIKED & SHARED 3x more than any other content? Engage your audience by throwing together an eye-catching infographic with company stats! It doesn’t have to take long (Psst… has templates for that) but, it is sure to catch your audience's attention.

“Advertising is like learning – a little is a dangerous thing. If a man has not the pluck to keep on advertising, all the money he has already spent is lost.”

P.T. Barnum definitely didn't make all of the best business decisions 🤭 (like driving himself into a WHOLE LOT of debt)

But he DID know how to build a brand to stand the test of time through advertising.

Neglecting to advertise is one surefire way to sign your brand's, and bussiness's, death certificates 😵

Do you agree with Barnum?

A Nominalization is a noun that you create from an adjective or verb - They typically end in -tion, -ance, or -ness.

Like:
🔹 Friendliness
🔹 Appearance
🔹 Discussion
🔹 Carelessness

And they almost ALWAYS add un-needed wordiness to your writing.

So, what happens when you give them the ax?

Take this sentence:
“The children worked to find a resolution to their playground dispute.”

Can you spot the nominalization? It’s the word resolution.

If we cut out ‘resolution’ and replace it with its verb counterpart, the sentence turns into:
“The children resolved their playground dispute.”

See how we got a shorter and easier to read sentence?

When editing, double-check if you’ve used any nominalizations. If you have, try to CUT THEM OUT.

Sometimes, nominalizations can be helpful. But typically? It’s better to kiss them goodbye.

Are you using INFOGRAPHICS in your ? No? 😱

Well, according to research from the folks at Showpad , infographics get 3X the likes and shares of ANY OTHER type of content.

That's A LOT of engagement you're missing out on!

Make sure when you're content planning, infographics are at the top of your list!

Not sure where to start when creating one? You'll need to write some bullet-proof & snappy copy to design your graphic around.
