**BIG NEWS***
I'm so pleased to announce that Communicate Your Joy is officially merging with Flamingo Consulting LLC! This will allow me to grow deeper in my digital marketing skills and allow me to tap into a larger network of resources to help both of us serve more clients well.

This has been such a fun website to work on. Congrats to Linda Otterbridge and the HASU community!

Today is the 3 year anniversary of Communicate Your Joy.

I still work way too many weekends and late nights, there were quite a few months when I couldn't figure out how to make enough to my mortgage (thanks Mom), and let's not even get into my double usage of orthopedic footwear.

But every day, when I get to open up my email and work with clients who I truly adore and help them realize their own dreams, when I get to attend every middle school soccer game and school event and not feel guilty...and of course, not wear real pants, it's worth it. Every last minute.

If you ever feel the itch to NOT work for someone else, it's for a reason. Don't let fear or complacency talk you into staying at a job that is ok when you could be working for yourself and feeling so much better about yourself, your abilities, and your needs.

I fully believe the paradigm of work is shifting and there will be more and more of us answering this calling. And when that happens, remember you need help with your website and your marketing strategy and shoot me a note. (I'd say call me but anyone who knows me knows I am the WORST at answering my phone!!!)

I've LOVED helping Jen develop her coaching business. She brings a really unique perspective to the business coaching world based on her real-life experience owning Cookies by Design here in GR! I've already learned a ton from her just by building her website. She's got a new program starting in March - check out her video and link for more details!

I can't tell you how many current, past, and future clients have told me that they're waiting for THAT NEXT THING before they take action in executing something to drive their business forward.

"I'll hire you after I am done with this contract with this other overpriced marketing company."

"I'll build a website after I have my wife, 27 colleagues, and our dog read over the content and stew on it."

"I need to have a website finished before I tell a single soul about this new venture I'm undertaking."

I get that we're in a pandemic and there's civil unrest and everyone is home and time is limited. (You know I'm writing this when I have 15 items still on my to-do list). But I ask you to just consider that you MIGHT be making an excuse for yourself out of fear...

Before you have momentum in your business, you're probably going to try to make the actions that you take into grandiose volcano-climbing hikes. It will require once in a lifetime preparation - for you to do your first webinar. You will need every detail checked - to tell people your services ar

I am taking word and space from my coach Steph Lagana and acknowledging that business is not going to be as usual today for me or a lot of people after what happened in our country yesterday.

We are all human beings with varying mental health states and some of us (ok, most of us) need time and space to reintegrate to our "normal" - as fraught as that may be in this time of pandemic, racial unrest, and now - an attempted coup.

One of the steps I'm taking to resist and change the status quo is to acknowledge that rest and self-care are a critical part of business, even when our capitalist society tells us to hustle and force on and be productive no matter what.

And as a marketer, I'd be remiss if I didn't remind fellow small business owners to pause/unschedule social posts and emails about things that are unrelated to what's going on right now. Posting about your sales, your great outfit, or a fantastic recipe you made may help you get back to normal, but without that caveat you have the chance of being seen as insensitive - or worse, siding with those who took violent action yesterday.

I have boatloads of hope and optimism for the state of our country going forward. Let's all make sure we take care of ourselves so that we can take the powerful steps needed to inspire the change that is needed.

What if it can be simple and effective?
