Today, before the sky, the earth, and the souls who surround us, I write to you with a heart full of gratitude and peace. From the moment our paths crossed, something deep within me recognized you… as if our spirits had already known each other long before this life.

She took it upon herself to document every word and meaning from her decades-long repository of knowledge. Without prior computer knowledge, Marie Wilcox learned to type and compile a comprehensive record. Her dedication culminated in a 6,000-word dictionary and audio recordings after nearly seven years. When she passed away in 2021, her work ensured the Wukchumni language would endure.
