At first, SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimization, can seem like a concept that’s too complex to handle if you’re starting out with your own website. Basically, SEO is a practice that’s ultimate goal is to up your rankings on Google and other search engines’ when searched. The goal is always to stay on top, or at least on the very first page of the search results. This is achieved partly by implementing a good SEO structure in your blog.
A good site structure is important in your blog because it is the core of well-performing SEO. Here are some tips that can help you get started:
1.Organize your content well – This begins with the hierarchy of how you arrange your content into pages, and arranging the pages into a sequence that has a logical and streamlined flow. In this step, what you will be coming up with is the hierarchy, which will also be the navigation menu and flow of your website.
Set your priorities, and reduce it to the essentials. As far as categories though, keep it to a minimum. Website- with-SEO.com order their categories in an effective way.
Keep in mind that your arrangement ultimately has to make sense, and for it to make sense, the best route is always to keep it simple and straightforward. The more complicated and long-winding your navigation will be, the more discouraging it looks from the point of view of your blog’s reader and it makes it more complicated for search engine crawlers to do their job in reaching your blog.
2.Pay attention to the URL structures – When we talk about URL structures, it’s best to imagine it like a set of directions that stem from your homepage, down to the location of where that certain page you’re viewing is. Here’s an example:
Say the URL of your page entitled “Hearty Tomato Soup” goes like this: loveveganlife.com/recipes/heartytomatosoup
Blog platforms (i.e. Wordpress and Blogger) often give you options on the URL structures of your post. Avoid structures that just show a bunch of random numbers and characters OR URL structures that are based on the date/month/year of the post. Instead, opt for URL structures that reflect your website navigation closely, and which makes use of the actual page’s words.
3.All your major categories must be reflected on your navigation menu bar – Since your navigation bar’s space can be at times, limited, this goes to show how you should definitely limit your blog’s main categories to not more than 5 to 7. Having all your categories easily accessible right there will entice your readers to stay longer, and reduces the bounce rate of your site.
Once you’ve got your SEO structure and choose the proper URL structures, it will be much more easier for you to boost up your rankings in search engines, because crawlers prefer sites that are easier to understand than those that have structures that are too complicated, long-winding, and pages that are buried several layers deep in your navigation.
