The Potential of Mobile Commerce Development
The three prominent sectors with significant growth potential are online shopping services, messaging services, and online payment services
1. Online Shopping Services
According to a report in 2022, over 51 million Vietnamese people engaged in online shopping, marking a 13.5% increase from the previous year, with a total spending of 12.42 billion USD. Among these, 73% of consumers frequently shopped on e-commerce platforms and 59% placed orders on international websites
In terms of user numbers, three popular online shopping platforms are Shopee, Lazada, and Tiki. They have become e-commerce hubs with diverse campaigns designed to attract consumers
- Shopee: Shopee introduced programs such as Super Coin Shake, Shopee Farm, and Shopee Air, along with features like live streaming for online sales. They developed a culture of monthly sales and clearly defined the strategy "Mobile-first - Prioritize Mobile Platforms" since 2018
- Lazada: Ranking second in the market, Lazada adopted several strategies from its competitors, launching effective campaigns like "ChΓ©m giΓ‘" (Slash Prices) and "Shake shake" in November 2019, along with the "Gamification" strategy to engage users
- Tiki: With successful funding from both domestic (VNG) and international (Sumitomo Investment Fund and Japan's CyberAgent Ventures) sources, Tiki has become a powerful e-commerce platform with high potential for future growth
2. Messaging Services
The need for user connectivity in the digital environment continues to rise, leading many businesses to develop chat applications integrated with various innovative and intelligent features. Notable platforms in Vietnam include Zalo, Facebook Messenger and Viber. The development of Mobile Commerce within these applications optimizes individual and business needs.
Some potential trends in messaging services within M-commerce in the future might include:
- Enhancing User Experience: New features will be developed to help users search, order, pay, and receive products more conveniently
- Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI technology will analyze searches and provide smart product suggestions automatically
- Chatbot Development: Chatbots will assist customers in searching for and ordering products
3. Online Payment Services
As of March 2019, over 20 online payment services were active in Vietnam. The three most widely used digital wallets in Vietnam are Momo, Moca, and ZaloPay
These digital wallets not only enable users to make online payments but also support users with various other purposes, such as:
- Offering Discounts: Through programs like (Share Momo) and purchasing movie tickets
- Providing Deals for Food Orders via ZaloPay
