Early morning safaris and afternoon safaris on 4 X 4 are the norms at any wildlife lodge and so it is at Pench except when the park is closed on Wednesday afternoons. For the young and tireless there are many walking trails as well as cycling opportunities to explore the villages and vistas around.

The fort has rooms on second and third levels, dining is a few flights up though it can be arranged in the veranda or the courtyard, on request. The absence of lift will be a challenge for those who have limited mobility.

Svasara meaning ‘the nest’ is a family owned property. The late Mr. S.P. Sinha, an avid wildlife photographer envisaged it as a retreat for the family. It soon evolved into a boutique jungle lodge that shares the family’s love for wildlife with other like-minded nature enthusiasts. The lodge is set over ten acres of land overlooking the Tadoba forest and hills, most of which has been allowed to become a reforested sanctuary.

Many guests stay at Kipling for 4 nights or longer. Most days begin with an early morning drive into the park in open 4WD vehicles in search of barasingha, sambhar, chital, wild dog, leopard, tiger and other wildlife. Breakfast is always set up in the park; back at the camp lunch is usually outdoors.

For the afternoon drive, guests can return to the Tiger Reserve, go bird watching, take a guided nature walk in the forests that surround the Camp, retreat to a hammock with a book, or – most popular of all – bathe Tara in the Banjar River.

Evening time is to relax in the Shamiana around a campfire with drinks and dinner, the sounds of the jungle the only music while conversation flows among guests about their day in the park. Longer stays would allow for visits to 17th-century forts, a colourful tribal market, climbing the mysterious black mountain, relaxing massages, volleyball for the energetic, a candlelit outdoor dinner, tribal dances under the stars (if there are sufficient guests) and screenings of films on Kanha’s remarkable wildlife.

A campfire at night, listening to the sounds of the jungle and sharing tales of adventure, provide the perfect end to an exciting day.
