Latest on local conditions from the Northland Civil Defence, please note road closures, please click below
The main rain band has now moved over the region, although we may still see some scattered showers tonight. There may also be some more rain tomorrow morning, but it’s not looking like anything we have seen today.
We saw some very high rainfall in areas across the region today, with 134.5mm recorded around Waitangi. This area also saw the highest intensity rainfall with 52.5mm an hour recorded between 10 and 11am.
The main impacts across the region have been road closures due to flooding, with a total of 42 local road closures currently – most of these are in the Far North. As the rain eases we are seeing surface flooding recede and more of these roads open but some may remain closed overnight.
Please check your local district below for closures:

Rivers around the region remain elevated so we are continuing to monitor them closely to see if there are any further concerns beyond road flooding.
Remember, if you see rising water, do not wait for official warnings. Head for higher ground and always stay away from floodwater. If life or property is in immediate danger phone 111.
We will continue to monitor the situation and post any key updates here.
