This is a very sad and difficult time for our world. The news from the Middle East has impacted us on a global scale and a deeply personal one. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but when innocent people and children are targeted for murder and abduction, it’s no longer acceptable to stay silent.

All of us at BARKER stand against all acts of terrorism and brutality. We unequivocally condemn anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and all other forms of hateful discrimination.

It takes all of us to stop hate and we all can play a part to spread empathy, humanity and peace both here and around the world. A small gesture makes a difference.

Today, our office is closed in observance of Juneteenth. While we’re glad to be commemorating this truly momentous day in American history – we want to admit and acknowledge that this is the first time we’re observing the holiday. There is no excuse for this. And we still have a lot to learn. So today, while we hope to celebrate the freedom of all slaves 155 years ago, we’re also taking this time to educate ourselves and listen.
With this in mind, here are some of the resources we’ve been engaging with to learn more about the history, importance, and impact of Juneteenth, as well as how far we still have to go to fulfill the true promise of that day.
