Some of our team attended the annual British Guild of Agricultural Journalists Service of Thanksgiving for Harvest in London yesterday. An event we attend each year and one that acknowledges the talented and hardworking journalists and communicators in the agricultural industry ✍️ 🌾

Today is 🥕

The JCM team has had the most vibrant end to the week, attending yesterday’s British Carrot Demonstration Day and today, celebrating one of the nation’s most favourite vegetables - right up there in joint place with our British potato 🥕 🥔

This day will be a national celebration of one of the most nutritious, versatile and British-Grown heroes of the veg rack.  
 
We’re very enthusiastic to be working alongside the British Carrot Growers Association in this carrot-tastic campaign with the aim of shining a light on the passion, precision, and perseverance it takes to grow British carrots and encouraging more nutritious carrots onto our plates.
 
Whether you’re a creative carrot connoisseur or just love a good roast dinner side, British Carrot Day is about more than just recipes (though we’ve got plenty of those too), it’s about recognising the farmers, the challenges, and the incredible journey of British carrots from soil to supermarket.
 
💡Did you know Britain grows over 700,000 tonnes of carrots each year – that’s the equivalent weight to 70 Eiffel towers😲

Whether you run an agritourism or farm retail business, your input will help to showcase the powerful impact of agritourism on Scotland's economy and rural communities.

The survey is collecting data on the number of businesses and their visitors in the agritourism sector and will help demonstrate the value and impact of agritourism and farm retail in Scotland - ensuring that the sector is on track to meet national targets in 2030.

The Netherlands with Nunhems!🍅

We spent the day in amongst the vines at Tomato Experience Centre near The Hague, where we joined growers and retailers to explore how their industry-leading seed varieties are meeting consumer demand across the UK and beyond.

It was a fascinating visit, with time spent exploring the greenhouse, discovering new varieties, discussing trends in UK tomato consumption and learning about the opportunities within the sector.

And of course, there were plenty of chances to sample one of the nation’s favourite vegetables... or should we say, fruit?

Another great year at Groundswell Agriculture 🌱🤩

Last week some of the JCM team headed to Groundswell, where we supported nearly 100 media over two days. The festival provides a forum for farmers, growers or anyone interested in food production to learn about regenerative farming systems. With hundreds of sessions and speakers, demonstrations, workshops, tours, a bookshop, fabulous food, the incredible Earth Worm Bar and some live music at night, it really lived up to it's reputation as the "Glastonbury for farming".

A big shout out to the wonderful Cherry family who came up with the concept nine years ago, and continue to manage and host the event on their own farm, staying true to their own values of collaboration and inclusivity - welcoming all views and topics. If you missed the event, the sessions are all recorded and will be uploaded over the coming weeks and months to their You Tube channel.
