If you're new here, here's a little intro. Peerbagh incorporated as a nonprofit in Austin in 2023. We work with a mission to encourage reading and spotlight South-Asia-inspired stories.

- The name is read as: Pir (someone wise) + baag (garden) or a garden of the wise
- Began as a volunteer-collective in Montreal with digital magazine for children in 2021
- Our work includes: Bento member magazine, Varta Story fest, and the Zubaani podcast

Imagine our surprise when volunteers were able to bring Bento to Srinagar (where the original Peerbagh is located) for the first time!

One of the most incredible privileges and honors of producing Bento is to work with folk storytellers with roots in all parts of South Asia. In our Spring issue, we were lucky to share a Baluchi folk story from writer and translator .

The best thing about stories is that they transport you to different worlds in a jiffy as we connect with universal emotions.

[OPEN CALL] We're inviting South-Asian writers, storytellers, and creatives to be a part of Varta. Our call for submissions is now open. The theme this year is "Weave" combining heritage identities with lived experiences to build new art.

The event will take place in Austin on December 5th, 2026.

The deadline to submit your proposal is June 5th, 2026 and we will reach back out to you by June 30th, 2026. We look forward to seeing your proposals and sharing your art with the community!
