You know why ATMs are mostly shut since Demonetization?

Because most ATMs are incapable of dispensing currency of the dimension of the new 2000 / 500 rupee note.

Since the new 2000 / 500 rupee notes are narrower than the old notes of 500 / 1000 and even 100 rupees, the ATMs had to be re-calibrated to dispense the new notes. This process of Re-calibration includes change in both; Software and Hardware. While a lot of ATMs could be re-calibrated, a whole lot of them were simply rendered useless.

If all the ATMs were working, and were able to dispense old notes of 100 rupee and lower denomination along with the new currency notes ….the story would have been something else.

Demonetization plight. State run road transport department does not accept card payment. They follow strictly CASH ONLY policy. When asked the station incharge for Shivneri buses at Dadar Mumbai tried to sn**ch our camera phones and manhandled us.
