After the diagnosis comes in, something strange happens.
You start recognising the traits… in yourself.
The sensory overload.
The hyper focus.
The burnout after socialising.
The way your brain runs at 100 tabs open at once.
And suddenly it clicks.
Maybe the kids didn’t get it from nowhere.
Maybe we’ve been a beautifully neurospicy family all along.
Not broken.
Not difficult.

No one prepares you for this part of parenting.
Not the meetings.
Not the endless forms.
Not the feeling of having to prove your child deserves support.
If you are raising a child with additional needs, you already know the truth.
The system was not built with our children in mind.
Most days it feels like we are fighting battles nobody else can see.
Fighting schools.
Fighting services.
Fighting to be heard.
Fighting just to get the bare minimum our children deserve.
And while the world carries on as normal, SEN parents are holding everything together behind the scenes.
Appointments.
Advocacy.
Meltdowns.
Sleep deprivation.

But here is the truth they forget.
We are not weak.
We are not dramatic.
We are not “difficult parents”.
We are warriors for our children.
