When I started this business, I was in a very good space. My future seemed bright. Life was good and exciting. My intention was to give back and make a difference. But in a moment, my life turned upside down. Things went south, and I quickly ended up in a very difficult spot. I got stuck in a deep, dark hole I almost didn’t escape.

When I saw the video of Jp Dix Artist as a lost soul on the street, I realised that could have been me — I nearly gave up. We all have our limits; sometimes we’re pushed beyond them. Life is so unpredictable. Most people can handle one or two major blows, but when a few hit at once, your world can collapse. It could be the loss of loved ones, a bad decision, or betrayal by those you trust most.

We are quick to judge those who gave up on their dreams and seem to have settled for a life with no meaning. But just remember, you have no idea what they’ve been through to get to that point.

The overwhelming feeling of failure can break your faith in yourself and pull you into a spiral of despair and hopelessness. Once you lose self-confidence, you’re in serious trouble—even if you have faith in God or someone greater than yourself. Because you still have to get up each day and do what needs to be done. Nothing and no one can do it for you.

Without anyone—including yourself—in your corner to encourage you, the climb back feels impossible. In JP’s case, Albert Bredenhann stepped in and took his corner like a boxing coach. He couldn’t fight on JP’s behalf, but he stood by him and guided him while he faced his own battles. With the support and belief of the people in his corner, he managed to get up and start rebuilding his life. Thank you for this lesson Albert.

We need to be kind, especially to those who seem down and broken. Your kindness may just be enough to wake up the sleeping giant in someone else.

A while ago we went to see one of JP’s incredible performances. The man who recently was seen as just a nameless man on the street, took centre stage and blew the crowd away with his incredible talent. He inspired us all with melodies from his Strings of Survival.

I am grateful that we could be part of his corner crew for this amazing event. JP, we wish you all the best. May you grow stronger and achieve more than you could ever imagine!
