Lipolysis is a procedure used to dissolve stubborn localised fat deposits targeting deeper layers underneath skin. This procedure is specifically meant for areas of fat that are resistant to the effects of weight loss through healthy dieting and exercise.

An active substance is injected directly into the subcutaneous tissue with the aim to destroy localised fat deposits, without affecting surrounding fat tissue. The main role of active ingredient that is usually used, is to help emulsify and break down fat and cholesterol. This procedure is indicated for smaller localized areas to enhance contouring and not for generalised weight ​loss. It is most effective when combined with a healthy diet and exercise regime as weight gain may affect results.

How many treatments are needed and how often can they be repeated?

This depends on the amount of resistant fat that one wants to dissolve. On average 2 to 3 treatments are needed. They can be repeated every 3-4 weeks. Results are not the same in each patient and vary per individual.

How soon one can see the results?

Slow and gradual improvement can be seen after 3 weeks, and the maximum results are seen after 8 weeks.

Is the procedure safe? Are there any side effects and contraindications?

The procedure is considered to be safe, it uses vitamin C and iron and once injected into the body triggers a naturally occurring physiological process called apoptosis (natural cell death).
The contraindications to lipolysis include allergy to ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and/or to iron, bleeding disorders, using anticoagulants, dyslipidemia, pregnancy, breast breastfeeding, diabetes mellitus, compromised immune system including AIDS, stroke, recent cancer, blood clots, liver disease, serious kidney disease, active skin infection – bacterial or viral as well as known allergy to any ingredient used during mesotherapy procedure.
Possible risks and side effects include but are not limited to: bruising, bleeding, swelling, discomfort, pain, burning sensations, skin discolouration, blisters, ulceration, lumpiness, hardness of the treated area, nodule formation at the injection sites as well as infection, allergic reactions, dizziness and nausea. Most of these side effects are temporary.

Semaglutide is a subcutaneous injection.

General guidelines are as follows:

For diabetes management, start with 0.25 mg once a week. Depending on the response and tolerance, increase to 0.5 mg or 1 mg once a week.
For obesity treatment, the recommended maximum dose is 2 mg once a week (please be advised you need to complete a minimum of 16 weeks dosage escalation to reach 2mg per week), administered on the same day weekly, at a time of your choosing.
Always adhere to your healthcare provider’s dosage instructions, tailored to your specific condition and response.

Side Effects: While not universal, Semaglutide may have side effects:

Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, especially when starting, may improve over time.
Hypoglycemia: Semaglutide has a lower risk of causing low blood sugar compared to some diabetes drugs, but it can still occur, particularly when used with other blood sugar-lowering medications.
Injection Site Reactions: Some individuals may experience redness, itching, or pain at the injection site.
Pancreatitis: Pancreas inflammation has been reported as a potential side effect although it is a rare side effect.
Kidney Function: Semaglutide may affect kidney function, requiring monitoring in some cases.

Half-life: BP Semaglutide 3 boasts a relatively lengthy half-life of about one week, allowing for once-weekly dosing. This extended action duration contributes to its efficacy in managing blood sugar and promoting weight loss.
