I started my career in Clothing Design. Clothes have always been my "thing" and I love being creative. The thing about clothing, is that in reality, the industry sucks. I had designs stolen. I was stabbed in the back. I was a team player without a team.

I recently started because I identified a gap in the workplace, a gap between upper management and the team on the ground. I tried in a huge corporate conglomerate, I tried in a blue collar factory and I tried in a very young startup. I thought if I could be the voice or the interpreter of both sides, I could maybe close the gap and help both parts of the organization to be more cohesive, stronger and successful.
But nobody really wanted to listen. Ego and insecurity got in the way, time and time again.

My mantra and my belief is that always. To quote Simon Sinek, if you are going places, look around and see who you can take with you. I am a connector. I share. I share my knowledge and skills. I share my advice. I share my ideas. I believe that together we are always stronger.

A few months ago I chose to participate in a 1hr CANVA workshop. I knew CANVA. I had been using it daily for a while but I decided to sign up because sometimes an expert can teach you some new tricks and tweaks.
Not only did Mike give an excellent overview of the CANVA tool, but he directed us to a link on his website where he lists (with links) his favourite business tools. He asked for nothing in return. I did not have to sign up for it. I did not have to like his page. All I had to do was click on the download link on his website.

I reached out to Mike to thank him, and he responded by saying that he is very happy to help, that anytime I had a question, to get in touch and included his cell number.

I try to be like Mike. I wholeheartedly believe that this is the way we should always be. It always and we can only benefit by breaking down the walls, by communicating and by sharing our skills and experience.
