Design-ready does not mean print-ready.
We need to talk about the growing disconnect between digital creation and physical production.
Lately, more clients—and even some graphic designers—are walking through our doors handing over low-res screenshots, compressed exports from free design apps, or direct AI prompts from tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney. They look slick on a phone screen. But the moment we zoom in or prep them for press? Pixelation, broken vectors, flat RGB color spaces, and muddy resolutions.
The hardest part isn’t fixing the files. It’s the expectation that printers can perform miracles on files built without bleed, scale consistency, or proper color separation, simply because "it looked good on Canva."
AI and rapid design tools are fantastic for brainstorming concepts and inspiration. But creation is only step one. Production has rules physics and presses cannot ignore.
