Role Description The Headwear Machinist is a full-time, on-site role based in the City of Cape Town, responsible for operating industrial sewing and stitching machines to produce caps and other headwear. Day-to-day tasks include setting up and adjusting machines, sewing panels and components according to patterns, attaching visors, labels, and trims, and ensuring seams and finishes meet quality standards. The Headwear Machinist will inspect materials and finished items for defects, maintain a clean and organized workstation, and perform basic machine maintenance such as changing needles and thread. The role involves working closely with supervisors and team members to meet production targets, following safety guidelines, and accurately recording work output. The person in this role may also assist with sample production, minor pattern adjustments, and training new team members on machine use and best practices.
Qualifications
Experience operating industrial sewing or stitching machines, MUST HAVE HEADWEAR EXPERIENCE, apparel, or textile manufacturing.
Strong practical skills in measuring, cutting, and handling fabrics and materials with attention to detail and quality.
Knowledge of basic machine maintenance, including troubleshooting minor issues, changing components, and ensuring safe operation.
Ability to read and follow production instructions, patterns, and quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
Good teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow supervisory guidance and collaborate on production lines.
Commitment to workplace safety, reliability in timekeeping, and consistency in meeting daily and weekly production targets.
Previous experience in a manufacturing or factory setting is beneficial; vocational training in textiles or garment production is an advantage.
Willingness to learn new techniques, adapt to different styles of headwear, and support continuous improvement in processes.
