Who’s THAT BIRD?

Feed That Bird is a boutique public relations and communications agency built on senior-level experience, hands-on support, and a clear understanding of how brands earn visibility in a changing media landscape.

Founded by Jeanri-Tine van Zyl, FTB works across public relations, media strategy, content, social media, digital communication and brand positioning — helping businesses show up clearly, credibly and consistently.

We’re proud to now be open in George, offering on-the-ground support to clients across the wider Garden Route, while continuing to serve brands nationally from our satellite presence in Cape Town.

For us, this move is about being closer to a region we believe in: its people, its businesses, its tourism, hospitality, wine, lifestyle and corporate potential.

Same sharp strategy. Same national reach. Now with stronger local roots.

A strong niche tells the right people, “this is for you” - and lets the wrong people scroll on. Both are useful. Both save time. Both sharpen the brand.

At Feed That Bird, we help brands chisel that point of difference into communication that works across PR, social, digital, media, events, influencer partnerships and AI-led discoverability.

Because the goal is not to be everywhere for everyone.

It is to become impossible to ignore for the people who matter.

(Let's give this a go)

Thank you for your talks that inspire small business owners in all corners of the world, and for for keeping sh*t real.

Not going to lie. We like Canva's image-to-video tool.

Is it fun? Absolutely.
Is it useful? Sometimes.
Is it for every brand, every post, every poor unsuspecting product image?

Please, no.

Just because a feature exists does not mean it belongs in your content strategy.

Use the tool. Test the tool. Laugh at the tool.

But before you post it, ask the real question:

Does this add meaning - or did we just animate something because we could?

George and the wider Garden Route felt the full force of the storm on Monday, 11 May, with local reports recording gale-force gusts of up to 110km/h.

Across the town, the damage was immediate and visible: trees uprooted, roads closed, vehicles damaged, roof sheeting torn loose, buildings affected, and power interruptions reported across several suburbs.

But beyond the reports and warnings, it was also deeply personal. Schools closed at short notice, parents rushed to get their kids to safety, families rushed to get home, and for many, getting through the storm while trees snapped like matchsticks around them was genuinely frightening - and life-threatening.

With further severe weather warnings in place, schools will remain closed tomorrow as a safety precaution. To the disaster teams who worked tirelessly, and to every person who responded when others needed help - we salute you.

What stood out across so many community groups today was the true spirit of George: people raising the alarm, sharing updates, checking in, and answering the call when it mattered most.

The winds were fierce, but the George community spirit proved stronger.

Please stay safe out there.

Do you love storytelling, media and getting great work out into the world?

Feed That Bird Communication Consultants is looking for a Communications & Account Manager to join our full-service agency, working across wine, travel, hospitality and lifestyle brands.

This is not an admin role. We’re looking for someone hands-on, sharp and delivery-driven — someone who can manage multiple moving parts, write confidently, and apply good editorial judgement to real-world campaigns.

🔥 What you’ll be doing

✔️ Support the day-to-day delivery of communications and marketing programmes across multiple client accounts
✔️ Manage timelines, task lists and deliverables to keep projects moving
✔️ Draft social media copy, newsletters and content calendars
✔️ Assist with press releases, editorial content and campaign rollouts

✔️ Liaise with media and influencers, supporting pitching, distribution and follow-ups
✔️ Schedule and manage social media posts across platforms
✔️ Coordinate reporting, campaign summaries and performance tracking
✔️ Work closely with designers, videographers and freelancers
✔️ Maintain high standards of quality, tone and consistency across all outputs

🎯 What we’re looking for

✔️ A strong academic background in Communications, Media, Languages, Business Administration or a related field
✔️ An Honours or Master’s degree in Communications (completed or in progress) is highly advantageous
✔️ ±3 years’ experience in a communications, marketing or agency environment
✔️ Excellent writing and language skills
✔️ Highly organised, detail-driven and comfortable working under pressure
✔️ A genuine interest in wine, travel, hospitality and lifestyle brands
✔️ A proactive, solutions-focused, can-do attitude
✔️ Credible character references to support your application

🛠 Platforms you should be comfortable with

Slack | Canva | Meta Business Suite | LinkedIn | Mailchimp | RocketMailer
Google Workspace | Microsoft Office
(Bonus if you’re comfortable with Reels or basic video editing tools)

🌟 Why join Feed That Bird?

You’ll gain hands-on experience across strategy, content, media and social, working closely with senior leadership in a fast-moving agency environment. This is a role for someone who wants real responsibility, real learning and real momentum.

We’re a genuinely supportive, collaborative team, working with exceptional clients and producing work we’re proud of. We value balance, trust and giving people the space to grow, take ownership and stretch their wings.
