Dr Allan Boesak has made a profound and enduring contribution to South African society through his leadership in the struggle against apartheid and his unwavering advocacy for justice.
As a theologian, he used the church not as a place of silence, but as a platform for truth. He stood at the intersection of faith and resistance, boldly challenging racial oppression and injustice. As a founding figure of the United Democratic Front, he helped unite diverse communities in a shared mission to dismantle apartheid and restore dignity to the people of South Africa.
His voice extended far beyond our borders. On the global stage, he became one of the most powerful advocates for justice, calling for international awareness, accountability, and sanctions against the apartheid regime.
Beyond the political era of struggle, Dr Boesak has continued to shape the moral and social consciousness of our nation. His work in human rights, reconciliation, and equality reflects a lifelong commitment to building a South Africa that is just, inclusive, and grounded in dignity.
His legacy is not confined to history. It is alive, relevant, and foundational to the democracy we live in today.
We therefore call on President Cyril Ramaphosa to formally recognise Dr Allan Boesak as a Living Legend of South Africa for his selfless contribution and sacrifice toward a democratic, free, non-racial and non-sexist nation.
Sign the petition. Honour the legacy. Recognise the man.
