This time last year, I went on an overnight hike around the coast of Cape Point with a group of friends. It was such a memorable experience! Yes it was hard. Yes we got lost. Yes we were sore and tired and perhaps got a little grumpy. BUT we got to experience this wild mini adventure right on our doorstep, well nearly. An hour away! The openness, the peacefulness, the unspoilt beaches and wild mountain drops into the open ocean, the animals roaming free, the stars!!! I can go on! And all this within the Cape Point Nature Reserve. I can't recommend it highly enough. Here's an illustration I did last week of one of the tiny little duikers we saw.

Anyway, I hope you've had a good week! Mine hasn't been the best but this too shall pass and sometimes we need a little slap to remind us of what really matters. So with that, I wish you a Happy weekend... and if you're South African - Happy Long Weekend!!!

Let me introduce Penny, a vibrant bird from a new series I’m working on. She’s a sun-drenched splash of watermelon pink, lemon yellow, and delphinium blue, a bird so lively she resembles tropical fruit with wings.

I’m loving drawing and creating Penny’s Wonderful World! Stay tuned for more hand-drawn fantastical friends coming your way. ✨Do you think she looks like a Penny? Does another name suit her better?

Made to spread JOY from me to you,
Miriam.

I saw this massive wild iris on today's walk with Josie, took a blurry snap, and drew it just now. I love the various names: African iris, fairy iris, fortnight lily, or large wild iris. I like trying different techniques with my art. Most of my designs are very precise, so I enjoyed challenging myself with looser linework using a freehand approach. What do you think?

I love this peaceful imaginary scene. The pile of to-read books (just like next to my bed!). The comfy chair, waiting for someone to have an afternoon well spent in it. The curtains are a patchwork print I created using illustrations by Eugène Grasset. The background photo is from one of my adventures recently, taken along the winding paths below Cecilia Forest. What do you think of this scene?

I currently have availability for commissions for March and May, and from July. So if you would like something designed by a human, I'd love to help ✨

I made a this doodle that reminds me of a winding path, with stones to help you hop across a stream. I often play when I'm trying to getting back into creating. Never mindlessly, I always remember what I'm thinking about or listening to. It's like targeted playtime to reignite and get going. As my energy levels are rising after a depleted end of year, I'm starting to feel like myself again. I'm busy experimenting with something completely different right now. Let's see where that goes!

It's been a while since I posted and I thought I'd better show proof of life. I drew this imaginary scene at the end of last year. I was dreaming of a warm Spanish courtyard filled with flowers, and this is what I came up with. I think it would make a lovely card, or a colourful art print for your home. I'm taking socials much easier cos tbh it takes too much time. But I'm still very much here, tinkering away in my studio. If you need any graphic design or original prints & patterns created, I'd love to help. My mail is: [email protected]

Bloom baby, bloom! These colourful beauties are looking waaaay more spritely than I'm feeling! The song Crawl comes to mind 😅 I say, three cheers to everyone who's still standing at this point of the year!! I'm wrapping up this week for my end of year break. I've happily uninstalled the meta apps from my phone cos I want a break from that too. I haven't done that in aaaages - it's quite freeing :) I'll still be around, but just a little less active for the next couple of weeks. Catch ya on the flip side, Miriam.

I’m always thrilled to see my designs come to life and love to know when I'm sharing joy. Like these custom tee prints I did for a client I've known for years. He wanted to spoil his very special person and I was more than happy to help! It was such a fun and feel-good project. I mean, what's not to love about celebrating two people finding each other?! We've done a few projects together, and each one has been fun and collaborative. If you'd also like to mark an occasion, tell someone how much you adore them (human or animal!), or just create something pretty and unique, I'd love to help! If you’d like to discuss a commission or edit one of my existing designs feel free to email me at [email protected]

Oh hello 💙 Here's some close up detail of one of my 'freshly cut flowers in wonky ceramics with interesting shadows' collection. It may seem like an oddly specific theme, but that's where the inspiration took me. And who am I to argue? I create original hand drawn pieces to be printed on paper, t-shirts, cushions... or whatever your heart desires. Send me a message, and we can chat about options: [email protected] Commissions are still open for the next couple of weeks before I wrap up for the year. But if it's not urgent, then I have availability for Jan 2026! ✨

Looking forward to creating something uniquely human from me to you 💙

Chat sooooon,
Miriam.

For this week's socials, here's a recoloured illustration I did a few weeks ago. I chose black and white for today to for the movement. Read up on them. Another NGO tackling the root cause is Read up on them too. They're both doing excellent work.

On a personal note, I will be running around the Cape Town mountains this weekend. We're partaking in the trail fest again! We will be going through areas that are usually unsafe for women, but safety in numbers goes a long way. It makes me mad that we have these unbelievably beautiful surroundings, but especially women, cannot enjoy them in peace. That's just a tiny part of the problem. Tiny. But with NGO's like Women For Change, we will hopefully turn the tide and all women can start to move around more freely wherever we want.

I had to say something.
Let us live in peace.
Let us live.

🖤

Love, Miriam.
