It's time! We are rebranding and we need a new name.

Over the last couple of months our studio has gone through many changes. One of which was focusing on what we do best, user experience design, and letting go of everything else. Our mission is to serve our clients better and provide them with world-class design solutions, and we simply can't do that being a Jack of all trades, master of none!

We don't feel that our current name represents our new vision and so first on the agenda is a new business name. Something short and catchy, 4 or 5 characters. It must also have a .com or .design domain name available or at least inexpensive to purchase 😆. We need your creative help and in return, we will reward you with R5,000 cash if your name is chosen!

For some context:
We are a boutique user experience design studio, designing products such as Mobile Apps, Software, SaaS and Web Applications. We predominantly work with tech startups in South Africa 🤖

Nu Outline is a small studio designing digital products for SaaS companies and we’re looking for a Graphic Design Intern to join our team.

The ideal candidate will either have recently completed a relevant certificate/diploma/degree or have some experience and portfolio work.

You will be working directly with our Lead Designer.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with our Lead Designer.
• Produce designs for digital products such as mobile apps, platforms, software, SaaS etc.
• Support with planning and executing projects.
• Create designs according to briefs.
• Liaise with clients directly.
• Research to support client/team projects.

Requirements:

• Must be a South African citizen.
• A relevant certificate/diploma/degree or a healthy portfolio.
• Proficiency in using Adobe XD or Figma.
• Is creative and has an eye for visual balance.
• Can work at a rapid pace when required.
• Ability to follow a design brief closely.
• A keen interest in UX/UI design and the Tech/Software industry.

The roles are 100% remote-based, working via online project management tools. Candidates must have a quiet working area at home/co-working, a stable internet connection and the ability to commit full time, 8am – 4pm daily from 1 October 2021 with minimum one daily online meet-up.

Salary is up to ZAR4000 per month, with the potential for a raise and permanent role after six months.

Hello! Today we have a interesting topic about how web designers are perceived. : Web designers solve problems, not make things pretty - do you agree? 🧐

It’s a common misconception we as designers get when we are asked what we do. Many people believe that web designers only make things look pretty. We hear it all the time, “please make my website beautiful”. 😍

Now, we understand the importance of having a stunning website and we get a lot of joy making them, but that’s not really the point of design and why people hire us. 🤐

Your business, your goals and your problems are way more important to us than how your website looks. As web designers, we look at solving those problems and improving your business, whatever that means to you. Here are some common problems web designers solve:

- Customers can’t find us online
- Customers don’t understand what we do/how we’re different
- Customers don’t trust us
- Customers can’t buy online from us
- Customers can’t book services online
- Customers can’t find the right information
- We don’t show up on Google
- We don’t capture enough leads
- Not enough visitors are converting
- We need to impress potential employees/investors

Does Website Speed Really Matter?

Ok, so imagine you’re at a restaurant and you’re waiting 30 minutes just to get served. After finally ordering your food, you wait another hour and a half for your food to arrive. Then finally another 30 minutes just to receive the bill. This slow service can negatively impact your experience at a restaurant. Maybe you won’t even ever go back again!

This is a nightmare for a restaurant owner and your website is no different. If your website is slow, your users will most likely have a negative experience too. This could lead to poor conversion rates, poor website traffic and of course poor rankings on Google. It is vital that you optimise your website so that it’s fast to load, making the experience much better for your users. Here are some ways to improve your website speed:

1. Compress your images
2. Get better hosting
3. Use a CDN like Cloudflare
4. Minify code
