A sneak peek inside Freedom City — the learning capital of South Africa.

We can’t share in-platform screens (IP), but we can open the doors to the world around it.

Freedom City was built as the best version of South Africa — a perfectly imagined place designed to make learning feel human, practical, and worth returning to.

It became the setting for an 11-module Risk & Identification training journey (RIA) for a short-term insurance client. This isn’t training content sitting in a portal. It’s a city you step into — where brokers progress through districts, unlock modules, and learn through context, story and interaction.

These images are glimpses of what learners experience as they move through Freedom City — AI-generated visuals and film used deliberately to support memory, clarity and real-world application. You’ll see the city teach risk the way the real world demands it: credible, specific, and without fluff.

Inside the city, brokers encounter scenarios like:
Fire safety & lightning protection
Waste management and environmental risk
Flood disaster response and resilience
Construction and structural safety
Hot work safety
Kitchen safety and everyday hazards
…and more — each grounded in true-to-life risk realities, even inside a fictional world.

One creative choice we made early was to avoid hyper-realism. Freedom City isn’t trying to imitate live action or pretend it’s real. We wanted it to feel like a sketch of the future — designed, slightly unreal, with edges you can still see — because it’s a learning space. That small distance keeps attention on what matters: better understanding, better decisions, better advice.

The feedback and engagement from the broker community has been incredibly positive — the strongest signal that when learning is designed as an experience, people don’t just start it… they stick with it.

Welcome to Freedom City. 👇

Welcome to Freedom City — the learning capital of South Africa.

A short-term insurance client (name withheld) asked us to build a broker learning experience around Risk & Identification training (RIA). The goal wasn’t content for content’s sake — it was empowerment: helping brokers understand risk more deeply so they can give better advice and stronger mitigation recommendations to clients.

So we created Freedom City: a future-South Africa designed as an immersive training world — optimistic, culturally grounded, and built to make complex risk topics feel clear, practical and worth completing.

Freedom City isn’t a metaphor. It’s the UX.
Learners “enter” the city, progress through districts, unlock 12 modules, complete knowledge checks, and earn badges/certification along the way. Each module is anchored in a part of the city that reflects the learning — while the scenarios stay true-to-life and compliance-safe, even inside a fictional world.

We resisted the temptation to make it hyper-real.
Instead we embraced a world that feels slightly unreal — like a sketch of the future. A place with edges you can still see. Because Freedom City isn’t a set. It’s a story engine — designed to hold attention, carry learning, and leave space for imagination.

We used AI to generate the creative ecosystem — film, VO, environments and design assets — but the work only holds because of traditional craft: story architecture, film discipline, continuity systems, and quality control. AI accelerated the making; craft protected the experience.

The results (launched Sep 2025 → Jan 2026):

3,500+ active learners participating long-term and growing
60% rated the overall experience/content/visual style Exceptional
40% rated it Excellent
85%+ said the duration felt Just right

We can’t share in-platform visuals (IP), but we can share the journey — because this is what future-fit learning looks like when it’s designed like an experience, not a deck.

PARTNERING THROUGH CREATIVITY

Sometimes, a place becomes more than bricks and mortar.

It becomes a catalyst — a space where people connect, grow, and dream.

Kwagga Mall is one of those places.

When Evert & Davidson set out to tell this story, we didn’t want to just film a mall — we wanted to experience the community that surrounds it.

This project took us deep into rural South Africa, to a place built to give an entire community access to the modern world and its conveniences — without losing its soul. The people’s respect for what the mall brings them is profound; it’s more than a shopping destination, it’s a symbol of progress, pride, and connection.

We worked with local photographers and creatives to document the journey. Evert & Davidson and our crew lived, ate, and shared daily life with the people of Kwagga. We learnt their customs, picked up parts of their language, and walked their streets with open eyes and open hearts. It was a true collaboration — a diverse team, united through creativity. Some spoke the language, some learned new cultures, we were all changed by the experience. Together, we discovered how old traditions and systems have been thoughtfully woven into modern development — how respect for the past and innovation for the future can co-exist in a single, remarkable place.

These are the kinds of projects we swing our feet out of bed for in the morning.

The ones that remind us why we do what we do — finding a brand’s purpose and shining a light on it.

Because when creativity meets purpose, something extraordinary happens.

🦏 💛 At Evert Davidson Creative Partnership, we strategically align with a brand’s purpose—clarifying it, designing to it, and telling stories that move people to act, consistently and with care. Recently, we partnered with a client to spotlight their work protecting rhinos alongside Environmental Crime & Investigation units and SANParks rangers. Together, we shaped a narrative rooted in courage and collaboration—built to mobilise support, equip field teams, and grow a community of guardians. If your brand has a reason to exist, we’ll help you define it, translate it into strategy, and shine a light on it.

When purpose leads, creativity follows. 💥

We’re proud to be working alongside teams pushing the boundaries of what AI can do — not just technologically, but artistically. These platforms are canvases. But they need seasoned hands to paint with conviction. To every creative and client out there wondering how to make AI meaningful to your brand and craft. Your years of experience, your instincts, your eye — they matter more than ever. The tools may be changing. The storytelling doesn’t have to. Let’s make the future cinematic.

AI offers speed and scale, but greatness still requires vision. It still needs the eyes of directors who understand brand building narrative arcs. The hands of artists who know the importance of costume as character. The instincts of creatives who’ve sat in edit rooms debating frame choices and pacing. When we applied that rigor to AI film platforms, the results weren’t just efficient. They were electric. This is what happens when traditional creative wisdom meets emerging technology. Magic.

Ayanda is more than a digital avatar. She’s a synthesis of everything we know about story, tone, world-building, costume, voice, light, and presence. Every decision — from the way she speaks to the environment she inhabits — was crafted using traditional filmmaking principles and directorial discipline.
We treated this digital build as we would any production:
with purpose, taste, and nuance. Creativity doesn’t flourish
in shortcuts. It thrives in intention, in craft, and in the lessons learned over years of storytelling.
AI didn’t replace our creativity — it amplified it.

At EVERT & DAVIDSON, we recently stepped into the future with a project that challenged us to bring together the full weight of our creative heritage with the possibilities of AI. The result? A Digital Soul — a fully imagined, emotionally resonant character designed to guide audiences through the evolving landscape of the insurance industry.

From Partnership to Possibility.
When Evert Davidson Creative Partnership (EDCP) & MonkeyDonkey team up, things tend to get interesting. So when Santam asked EDCP to help them bring a bold new strategy to life, we knew it needed more than a slide deck. It needed a spark. It needed a someone.
The Challenge: Santam’s world is evolving. Fast. Leaders and brokers are navigating new tech, changing customer expectations, and a more complex risk landscape than ever before. The question was: how do you make all of that not just understandable—but engaging and exciting to Leaders and the Broker force?
The Idea: Meet Ayanda.
A human-centred AI-Guide which could speak directly to the people shaping Santam’s next chapter was created. She’s equal parts digital, soulful, and smart and has come to life in multiple platforms.
The Build: As a team, we built Ayanda from the ground up - her name (which means "to increase"), her style (corporate-cool with African design energy), and her tone (warm, knowledgeable, and totally un-intimidating). Then we created a place for her to live - a city that feels like the lovechild of Sandton and Abu Dhabi—futuristic, ambitious, and unmistakably South African.
But most importantly, we made her human-centric. In a time when AI is often seen as cold, complicated, or even threatening, Ayanda was designed to do the opposite. She brings connection, not confusion. Reassurance, not replacement. She proves that AI can be helpful, warm, and built with people in mind.
The Rollout: Ayanda first appeared at a national leadership event, introducing the new strategy in a cinematic video. She’s now on a full countrywide roadshow, connecting with brokers across South Africa. From live events to print to video content, Ayanda’s been showing up wherever she’s needed—guiding, explaining, connecting.
The Bigger Picture: This project was never just about launching a character. It was about partnership—the kind that makes ideas bigger, sharper, and more meaningful.
Ayanda’s just getting started. And so is this partnership.
