A creative communications agency. The Friday Street Club is a Cape Town based creative communications agency, with its roots in PR, branding and digital.

We're not your normal PR agency of poppies or gaggle of advertising egos though. We're a collective of small creative businesses and minds that work together on projects that we like and that interest us. Our work stems from a belief that no communications can work in isolation; that a brand’s reputation is made from more than a couple of holding statements in times of crises; and that people are

influenced just as much by the friends and family that surround them, as by the media they consume. In fact, we’d go as far as to say that if you’re looking for a bog standard press release or some average branding, you’re probably in the wrong place. We are named after a group of eminent Elizabethan writers, poets, creatives and thinkers, including, legend tells it, William Shakespeare, Sir Walter Raleigh, Ben Johnson and John Donne. They came together at the Mermaid Tavern, on Friday Street in London, to discuss, debate and collaborate. They called themselves The Friday Street Club.

Each year the SAB Foundation receive many applications from inspiring entrepreneurs who believe their innovation may help address a pressing social issue and make an impact on the lives of vulnerable communities.

We have been so excited to partner with luxury Italian kitchen brand , when they opened the doors to their first South African showroom. The beautiful space is located on Strand Street in the heart of Cape Town and is expected to quickly become a destination for members of the local design community and professionals in the luxury interior industry.

To celebrate this opening we worked with them to host an elegant evening during Investec Cape Town Art Fair Week, which saw a special collaboration with to showcase the work of local artist .The exhibition will be on display for one more month, so it’s worth heading down to be inspired.

The Friday Street Club are delighted to be part of what could be a revolutionary win in the South African fashion industry. Premium outdoor gear brand, SEALAND, has launched its first-ever range made from ECONYL nylon. ECONYL nylon is regenerated nylon made from collected nylon waste that would otherwise pollute the earth, including fishing nets, fabric and industrial carpet scraps, and industrial plastic.

Last night we attended and worked at the opening of The Nines, Sea Point’s newest luxury, yet comfortable, rooftop restaurant and cocktail lounge. The launch was celebrated with an evening of canapés, bubbles and fabulous guests.

The Nines, is part of the The Kove Collection and is situated on the ninth floor of the newly developed Station House at Nineteen Kloof Road. This amazing space offers breath-taking two-hundred-and-seventy-degree views over upper Sea Point, the sunsets are spectacular.

We are so proud to have been a part of this project. The restaurant officially opens this weekend, make sure you book your spot, this is not one to be missed!

Each year the SAB Foundation holds its Social Innovation and Disability Empowerment Awards that celebrate innovation and entrepreneurship. This year’s awards celebrated 29 local entrepreneurs who went through a period of hardship and struggle following the pandemic, civil unrest and global conflict, but still thrived against all odds.

Our brief was to develop a theme, a look and feel, as well as the roll out of design elements for the prestigious event. We decided on a fitting theme of renewal, revival and resilience, taking our inspiration from the South African Fire Lily. This tough plant defies the elements by producing its beautiful salmon to scarlet blooms just nine days after the destructive effects of a fire.

We worked closely with a local Cape Town artist, Stephen Felmore, to design the illustration which featured on all of the event collateral.

Where has this year gone? It is once again time for us to start getting ready for our annual Christmas party for the kids of the Abaphumeleli Home of Safety in Khayelitsha.

The orphanage is run by Evelyn Makasi in her own home and houses orphaned, abused, neglected, HIV+/- or abandoned children, ranging from new-born to 18 years old.

It is hard to believe that we have been involved with this magical place for 7 years. We have watched little kids grow into young adults in a safe and loving environment.

Abaphumeleli is currently home to 32 children and this year we would like to make their Christmas extra special.

If you would like to get involved, you can do so by:

A. Sponsoring a gift for a child
B. Contributing party goodies, fresh fruit and veg, staples (cleaning products, grocery basics etc.)
C. Donating cash to add to our haul

We are excited to announce that applications for the SAB Foundation Tholoana Enterprise Programme are now open. We have been honoured to be a part of this project since 2015 and continue to be amazed by the incredible people that we see each year.

The programme supports entrepreneurs looking to grow their businesses with tailored mentorship and funding. In order to apply an enterprise must be fully operational for at least 12 months, black-owned and based in South Africa.
