🌟 Team Member Spotlight: Jean-Pierre du Preez 🌟

Meet Jean-Pierre, a talented Full-Stack Developer at The Ethical Agency.

We asked him a few questions to get to know him better—here’s what he had to share:

1️⃣Why is sustainability important to you?

"Beyond the environmental benefits, sustainability is about recognising that our resources are finite. This realisation encourages us to be more creative within limitations and to reassess our priorities. In creative terms, these constraints can be a blessing.”

2️⃣What does a typical workday look like for you?

"Most days, I start with a run around the dam where I live—some days it’s easier than others! Then I log in and check Slack. We have a team meeting at either 8:30 or 9:00, which helps us focus on the day ahead. I try to remember to take breaks and stretch. Walking or stepping away from my desk sometimes helps when I’m working through a problem or solution. Suddenly, it’s 5 p.m., and I’ll usually go for a cycle or play some guitar. I try to spend time away from the computer to unwind and disconnect."

3️⃣What is your favourite kind of work?

"I enjoy challenges or problems that require a new solution. I like using design to solve problems and aim to reduce complexity wherever possible."

4️⃣Outside of work, what are your hobbies?

"Playing guitar, hiking, and tinkering with various projects."

We’re proud to have Jean-Pierre as part of our team and excited to see him continue to thrive in the organisation! Stay tuned for more team member spotlights! Meet the rest of our excellent team below:

ACEN is leading the charge towards a restorative African economy that fosters well-being and prosperity for all while preserving and regenerating our precious environmental resources.

In late 2024, we launched the ACEN website makeover 🌍✨

Most people do not think about the carbon footprint of a website – every time someone views a web page, they are downloading content from a server to their device. Therefore, reducing the content load and optimising website performance to reduce energy consumption is essential.

We proudly report that the new ACEN website boasts 100% desktop performance scores on Google core web vitals, with a lighter footprint than 87% of websites. You can view the website’s carbon score in the bottom right of the ACEN website’s footer. In addition, the website is powered by 100% renewable energy in the form of wind and hydropower (no offsets).

Are you looking for a new website or an update to your existing one? We have the expertise to bring your vision to life! Contact us for a free consultation today.

We had the incredible opportunity to host a Branding and Marketing Masterclass in Johannesburg, in collaboration with GIZ and The Presidential Youth Employment Intervention (PYEI), for 15 National Youth Service Non-Profit Organisations!

This workshop is one of the many ways we’ve contributed to the PYEI's mission as its official communications partner.
At The Ethical Agency, we’re passionate about equipping NPOs with the tools they need to amplify their impact. TEA developed a Communications Toolkit & Handbook for NPOs to be used as a handbook to devise an effective marketing strategy. During this hands-on session, participants explored:

✔️ Crafting communication strategies that work
✔️ Building and optimising social media profiles
✔️ Designing a free website tailored for NPO needs
✔️ Learning Canva for impactful visuals
✔️ Using AI to create engaging content
✔️ Understanding the basics of effective marketing

It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and creativity as these organisations sharpened their skills to enhance their visibility and better connect with their communities.

We’re proud to have been part of this empowering initiative! 💡

🌟 Team Member Spotlight: Rysiu Moscicki 🌟

Meet Rysiu Moscicki, project manager at The Ethical Agency.

Rysiu is a key player and the driving force behind our development team's success. As a Project Manager, Rysiu ensures that every project runs smoothly from start to completion, bridging the gap between creativity and technical ex*****on.

His attention to detail and knack for problem-solving make him an invaluable asset. He ensures that clients’ visions turn into reality while keeping the team motivated and on track. We caught up with Rysiu with a few questions to learn more about him —-here’s what he had to say:

1️⃣Why is sustainability important to you?

“Our planet will endure long after we're gone, and this reality shapes my belief in sustainability. It's a journey to preserve living beings that dance harmoniously with nature. As stewards of this earth, humans must protect that balance—not just for ourselves but for all creatures who share this space. When we care for our planet and environment, we invite the planet to care for us in return. This connection begins with simple, intentional acts of sustainability that exponentially echo as a collective.”

2️⃣What does a typical workday look like for you?

“As a project manager in a development team, my typical workday starts with a morning check-in to review project timelines and priorities. I hold a stand-up meeting to discuss progress and any blockers. After that, I collaborate with team members on challenges and support specific tasks while updating project documentation. Throughout the day, I communicate with stakeholders via emails and meetings to keep everyone informed and manage expectations. I monitor our progress using project management tools and adjust timelines as needed. In the afternoons, I conduct reviews to assess our work quality and plan future sprints. I wrap up by reflecting on our accomplishments and preparing for the next day. It’s a dynamic role that combines leadership, communication, and strategic thinking.”

3️⃣What is your favourite kind of work?

“I’m passionate about work that directly impacts social and environmental issues. Nothing excites me more than leading projects with purpose. Whether through design or development, I love seeing our projects become valuable tools that advance our clients' visions.”

4️⃣Outside of work, what are your hobbies?

“I enjoy trail running and have an upcoming race for the half marathon (23km) for UTCT at the end of November 2024. I also try in my spare time to support a project in Barrydale, building a skatepark for the community to keep children occupied and inspired with skateboarding instead of falling into gang culture. You can find our website here: https://www.instagram.com/playground_skatepark/”

Humanity can no longer ignore the bees' plight.

TEA is excited to launch the Saviours of Sustainability campaign 🍃We’re asking our local leaders to share their feelings, journeys, missions, visions, and thoughts on some of the most pressing issues of our day.

First, we are tackling a topic that affects us all, but often becomes lost in the noise of uncertain times—the declining populations of the honey bee. This threatens more than just food security; global biodiversity depends hugely upon these tiny pollinators.

Joining us in our conversation about Bees is Eve Puttergill, founder of The Bee Effect.
The backstory:
After watching a life-changing documentary about the state of global honey bee populations, our resident copywriter and content manager, Lee McAlistair, wanted to find local thought leaders who could offer a different perspective. After digging a bit, Eve’s work with The Bee Effect stood out.

This is the start of an exciting collaboration, and we are thrilled to announce that Eve will be our first Saviour of Sustainability!

This week, Eve and Lee will discuss the Bee Crisis—what’s really happening to the bees, what The Bee Effect is doing to protect them, and, most importantly, what we can all do to help.

This will be a must-watch interview full of facts and solutions. 🐝💡
