IATA, AASA, AFRAA, UNWTO and WTTC have launched an urgent joint appeal to global financial, development and donor agencies to support Africa's travel and tourism sector, which has been decimated by COVID-19 and its associated travel restrictions. At least US$10 billion is required to support the millions of jobs and livelihoods at stake across the continent that depend on the sector. It contributes about USD169bn to Africa's combined economy, representing 7.1% of the continent's GDP. It's definitely NOT the Cinderella sector some governments view it as.
