Impact: Widespread flooding of roads and settlements Widespread mudslides, rockfalls and soil erosion Danger to life (fast flowing streams / deep water) Large communities not accessible/cut-off for a prolonged period Widespread displacement of affected communities Widespread damage to property, buildings and loss of livelihoods and livestock Widespread transport routes and travel services severely affected.

Instruction: If possible stay indoors and off the roads, avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles. If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground. Switch off electricity at the supply point of the building. In rural areas protect/relocate animals to a safe place on higher ground. Abandon your home immediately if evacuation is recommended, before access is cut off by flood water. NEVER drive on a road covered by water.

📣⚠️ OVERBERG SCHOOLS TO BE CLOSED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

Media Release: 07.04.2024

Minister of Education in the Western Cape, David Maynier, along with Premier Alan Winde, have confirmed that all schools in the Overberg region will be closed tomorrow, Monday 8 April 2024, due to the severe weather that is anticipated across the Province.

ESKOM have reported that it is currently experiencing major backlogs of faults due to multiple faults in the Western Cape caused by the inclement weather conditions. Citizens can contact their local authorities should they experience any power outages in their areas.

🚧 Various roads in the region are currently being monitored and regular updates will be provided should anything change. Motorists are once again reminded to please use extreme caution when driving and if possible, rather stay off the roads, especially those roads which are prone to flooding and damage.
