The past weekend did not go well for quite a few competitors. Considering there were 11 entries on Friday and only 3 finished the last race on Saturday. A weekend of high attrition for the Alfisti. On a more positive note was the great support from the Alfa Romeo Club of South Africa on the day. They came through to support the racers and then joined in a braai afterwards. Confirmation that the Alfa passion is alive and well in South Africa!

Friday practice would see Keagan Pottas run a bearing on his Advanced Integrated Pest Management 1980 Alfa Romeo GTV. Bjorn Gebert would also pick up mechanical issues in Friday practice on his FAS 1984 Alfa Romeo GTV6. With a backup plan materialising by grace he would compete in the borrowed GTV6 from Glenwood Motors. In qualifying the gearbox on Mario Rossi’s FAS 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT gave up on him as well.
Race 1 would see 9 cars line up on grid. From the start it would be Bjorn Gebert (Alfa Romeo GTV6) taking an early lead to never look back again until taking the chequered flag for the win. After a hard fought battle for second Miguel Ribeiro (Metal Used Spares Alfa Romeo GTAM) would get the better of Colin Ellison (Scuderia Ellison Alfa Romeo Gt Junior) in third. The international guest Greg Thornton (Scuderia Ellison 1970 Alfa Romeo GTAM) would post the quickest laptime in class A to catch up to the duelling pair in front only to run out of laps to become part of the second place challenge. Rynhard Grabe (1984 Alfa Romeo Sprint) would however retire with a collapsed shock before even completing a full lap. Christopher Tarboton (1972 Alfa Romeo Berlina) would also retire after completing 5 laps. Another great challenge erupted between Jose de Carvalho (PowerMods 1993 Alfa Romeo 155) and Henry Fourie (Alfa Romeo Berlina) only to see Fourie retire on the final lap next to the track also with gremlins showing up. Cuan Helen (1972 Alfa Romeo Junior) unfortunately also had to retire his car after completing only 2 laps.

The second race for the day would see only six cars make it to the grid. Gebert repeated his first race performance taking the win once again followed by Greg Thornton (Alfa Romeo GTAM) and Jose de Carvalho (Alfa Romeo 155) in third. Ellison would retire after completing only 3 laps. Fourie again had to retire next to the track, but this time with an electrical issue. Tarboton pulled into the pits before completing the first lap due to a burnt valve and this time round Grabe’s brakes failed on lap four to put him out of contention. Ribeiro did not start the race due to a busted windscreen from another race.

Overall Results for the day:
1. Bjorn Gebert (A+)
2. Greg Thornton (A)
3. Jose De Carvalho (B)
4. Colin Ellison (A)
5. Henry Fourie (B)

The next round will see the Historic Tour visit the coastal town of Port Shepstone and the Dezzi Raceway on the 5th of August for round 4 of the championship.
