Kzn Durban Why was KZNDURBAN put together in the first place? They were right of course, so something different had to be conceived, and it was.

KZNDURBAN is a digital media platform focused on community information, local business visibility, and regional engagement within Durban and the greater KwaZulu Natal area. There are many portals out there based on Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and other geographical areas, when this site was being planned the feedback from the market was that this idea was already overtraded. This site is all about KwaZulu-Natal, its lifestyle, places to go and see, it has information on Blue Flag Beaches in the magic province, photographs and virtual tours of featured locations which get updated on a month to month basis, every town has been listed or is going to be listed along with its particular history, location, demographics, weather and built in map. This site is a work in progress and will never be completed as there is so much to KwaZulu-Natal, its people and places. The idea is to keep online visitors coming back to see what else has been updated, either on the Home and Decor section, featured locations, shopping malls, property for sale, wedding advice in the wedding section, and much more. KZNDURBAN is not a business listing with categories such as Accommodation, Guest Houses, Hotels, plumbers, electricians, motor mechanics and the like. The problem with listings is that businesses are dynamic in nature and often the data-base making up the listing is out of date in a few months due to therm relocating or going out of business. The Accommodation industry has many websites catering to browsers looking for hospitality destinations such as Wheretostay, SA-Venues, Safari Now and Portfolio to name a few, so again KZNDURBAN has approached the concept from an entirely new angle. Advertising on a well visited online platform is a well used form of income, Google used adwords and Facebook uses banner adverts. News24.com and IOL all make use of banner advertising. KZNDURBAN offers the advertiser a banner advert option only as this attracts more attention than a listing, an example of this can be found on the Contact Us section of the site. Banner adverts are dynamic in nature being full colured and they also fade in and out and can carry a message, they also click though to the advertisers website thereby driving more online 'traffic' to their site which creates greater visibility for the business which translates into greater revenue. KZNDURBAN has been growing in visitor rate over the past few years and now it regularly experiences over 1 Million hits per month according to Webalizer which makes this site a very attractive place to book your banner advert, at a cost of R1500 per year, it makes it very affordable. Pinetown school mourns Grade 9 learner, Lamla Tenza

The death of Pinetown Girls’ High School learner Lamla Tenza has left a school community and those who knew her heartbroken, with tributes remembering the Grade 9 pupil as a "bubbly, friendly young girl with a free spirit."

Among those deeply affected by the news is Nokuthula Precious, who said she was overcome with emotion when her daughter told her about Lamla’s passing.

“I literally cried when my daughter shared the news yesterday; may her soul rest in eternal peace,” Precious said.

Her reaction reflects the sadness surrounding the loss of a young learner whose death has prompted messages of sympathy and condolences for her grieving family.

Nompumelelo Zuma also expressed her heartbreak, remembering Tenza for her warm personality and the spirit she brought to those around her.

“My heart broke into pieces when heard about Lamla's passing. A bubbly and friendly young lady with a free spirit,” Zuma said.

Zuma extended her condolences to Tenza’s family, wishing them comfort as they navigate the difficult days ahead.

Pinetown Girls’ High School announced Tenza’s passing in a message to its school community, expressing profound sadness and offering condolences to her family, friends, classmates and teachers.

“It is with profound sadness that we inform our school community of the passing of one of our Grade 9 learners, Lamla Tenza,” the school said.

The school has encouraged learners to support one another with kindness and compassion as they process the loss. It has also confirmed that support will be available to learners and staff members who need assistance dealing with their grief.

The school has asked the wider community to respect the family’s privacy as they mourn their loss.

A group of people looted a shop in Durban's C*D on Friday afternoon after police warned businesses to close as protesters marched through the city centre, according to the CCTV footage released by the shop owner.

The CCTV footage recorded the intcident at exactly ten past four on Friday, when several people were captured running away with two-plate stoves, heaters, lights, a computer screen, a speed point and coins that were by the paying till.

Around 3pm on Friday afternoon, police drove around Durban's C*D, warning businesses to close their shops as a group of people started marching along Bertha Mkhize Street and Grey Street.

A three-minute video from CCTV footage released by the shop owner showed a group of approximately 50 people looting the shop. The first video showed the events unfolding inside the shop, and the second video showed the exterior of the shop on Grey Street.

One of the shop staff was seen standing outside before the looting, pleading with protesters not to enter the shop. He then moved away upon being threatened with sticks by the protesters.

"There is no money here; they took it," the people in the footage can be heard shouting as they went inside the shop and found only coins by the teller. The footage appears to show only coins near the till; no banknotes are visible.

Two people struggled over the cash register; another person took the speed point, and the others took the two computer screens that were by the till.

As most people targeted the till area, some went inside the shop to grab baskets, small lights, a two-plate stove, and whatever else they could find.

The video also shows a man in a blue shirt shouting "Police! Police! Police!," as he directed the crowd out of the shop.

Cachalia walks Durban C*D as 14 burnt-out vehicles are removed after anti-immigration protest

Police have removed 14 burnt-out vehicles from Dr Pixley KaSeme Street in Durban’s C*D following Thursday's anti-immigration protest, as Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia visited the area to assess the security situation.

The vehicles, of various makes, were left on the street overnight after protesters converged on the C*D for the march.

The vehicles were removed by Durban Metro Police.

Cachalia, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli, Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who is also the national project leader for organised crime, and Acting Provincial Commissioner Major-General Phumelele Makoba were on the walkabout.

The visit follows an operational meeting at the provincial police headquarters.

The delegation is monitoring law enforcement deployments and assessing stability and public order in and around the C*D.

The unrest in Durban erupted on Thursday as anti-immigration protests linked to the March and March Movement spread through the central business district, with businesses owned by foreign nationals targeted and vehicles set alight.

The protests centred on the Department of Home Affairs’ Refugee Reception Centre on Che Guevara Road, where thousands of asylum seekers had gathered earlier in the week following changes to the processing of asylum applications. Demonstrators blocked access to the facility, with asylum seekers reportedly dispersed from the area.

The demonstrations came amid growing tensions over the implementation of a Constitutional Court judgment on asylum applications. On July 7, the court ruled in the Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town matter that asylum seekers could not be excluded from the application process solely on certain procedural grounds, including irregular entry into South Africa.

Home Affairs subsequently issued a directive on September 28 intended to implement the ruling, prompting increased pressure on refugee reception offices as more people sought to lodge applications.

Fifteen suspects were arrested on Friday night following violent protests that engulfed the city of Durban and surrounding suburbs.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said this brings the number of arrested suspects to 19, including the four arrested on Thursday for attempted murder and discharging a fi***rm in public.

“The suspects will face charges of public violence and malicious property damage, with the possibility of other charges being added. The majority of the arrested suspects are students and intelligence officers, and detectives are continuing the search for those responsible for burning vehicles and buildings,” Netshiunda said.

Two houses were burnt in the Umbilo area, and several shops were damaged in and around Durban, while a few of those damaged shops were looted.

Police in KwaZulu-Natal also dispel rumours and misleading information circulating on social media regarding the MTN8 Cup Final match between Orlando Pirates FC and Mamelodi Sundowns. The match is going ahead as planned, and police have implemented necessary measures to protect spectators, officials and players.

“All roads leading to the stadium are open and will remain open. Anybody who attempts to stage any kind of protest on the routes leading to the stadium, or anywhere in the vicinity of Moses Mabhida Stadium, will be met with the strong arm of the law,” Netshiunda said.

Better news about petrol prices in South Africa.

The anticipated petrol and diesel price hikes for November 2026 have declined, though motorists are still set to take a major hit next month.

This is according to the latest data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), which shows a noticeable improvement in the fuel price recoveries for November.

Earlier this week, the CEF reported that South Africa was facing colossal fuel price hikes, with a R4.7 per litre increase for petrol and a R3.19 per litre increase for diesel on the cards next month.

However, the newest data shows that the under-recoveries in the Basic Fuel Price (BFP) of both liquids has declined, translating to a smaller increase.

Petrol is currently facing an under-recovery of R3.16 to R3.35 per litre, while diesel under-recovery is pegged at R1.77 to R1.97 per litre.

The slight improvement is the result of a more optimistic outlook on oil prices, which declined following President Donald Trump’s statement that the US would not attack Iran before November’s mid-term election.

These are the CEF’s latest fuel price adjustment predictions at the end of the first week of October:

Petrol 93 – increase of R3.16 per litre
Petrol 95 – increase of R3.35 per litre
Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) – increase of R1.77 per litre
Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) – increase of R1.97 per litre
Brent Crude oil dropped to $102 per barrel after Trump announced that the US and Iran had engaged in “productive discussions,” and that crude was flowing through the Strait of Hormuz “in record numbers.”

This comes despite Tehran escalating attacks in the strait, boosting the risk for vessels that have been moving crude to global markets in increasing numbers, according to Bloomberg.

Even so, the CEF reported a lower movement in international product prices, with a 287c per litre under-recovery for petrol and a 139c per litre under-recovery for diesel.

Unfortunately, the exchange rate is also having a detrimental effect on fuel prices. The rand has fallen to R16.54 per USD, leading to a higher contribution to the BFP of petrol and diesel of 47c and 58c per litre, respectively.

KWAZULU-NATAL — Protesters took to the streets of Durban's central business district on Friday evening, prompting a significant police response involving tear gas, stun grenades, and rubber bullets.

The demonstration unfolded across multiple streets in the C*D, with large crowds drawing emergency vehicle deployments and a heavy police presence. Footage shared on X showed a nighttime scene filled with flashing police lights and a tense atmosphere within the crowd.

The unrest was sparked by a Constitutional Court ruling related to asylum seekers. Despite Home Affairs withdrawing the directive it issued to all Refugee Reception Offices, protesters continued marching and voicing unhappiness with the court's ruling.

Police clarify their approach to the protests
Authorities also moved to address reports suggesting officers had simply been escorting marchers and allowing unlawful conduct to occur unchallenged.

The South African Police Service stated clearly that the situation constituted a crowd management operation, with officers obligated to protect lives, safeguard property, and simultaneously respect residents' constitutional right to march.

Police indicated they were applying minimum legal force where the situation demanded it, and additional resources were being brought in from other parts of KwaZulu-Natal to reinforce personnel on the ground. Intelligence officers were also active, identifying individuals of interest with a view to follow-up investigations and arrests at a later stage.

5:42 pm - Hundreds of protesters are making their way to the Durban C*D.

5: 30pm - Tensions continued to flare in Durban on Friday afternoon as a house was set alight in the Berea area.

Firefighters are currently at the scene.

It is believed angry protesters set fire to the house, believed to have been used for prostitution and drugs.

However, this has not been confirmed.

There is a heavy police presence in the area.

Nearby, a motorbike was also set alight on Clark Road in Berea.

Vaughan Reid, chairman of Umbilo CPF, described the situation as volatile.

He said protesters have been stoning cars and windows

Anti-immigration protests turned violent on Thursday as more than 10 cars were burnt in the Durban C*D.
