Kzn Durban

Kzn Durban Why was KZNDURBAN put together in the first place? They were right of course, so something different had to be conceived, and it was.

KZNDURBAN is a digital media platform focused on community information, local business visibility, and regional engagement within Durban and the greater KwaZulu Natal area. There are many portals out there based on Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and other geographical areas, when this site was being planned the feedback from the market was that this idea was already overtraded. This site is all about KwaZu

lu-Natal, its lifestyle, places to go and see, it has information on Blue Flag Beaches in the magic province, photographs and virtual tours of featured locations which get updated on a month to month basis, every town has been listed or is going to be listed along with its particular history, location, demographics, weather and built in map. This site is a work in progress and will never be completed as there is so much to KwaZulu-Natal, its people and places. The idea is to keep online visitors coming back to see what else has been updated, either on the Home and Decor section, featured locations, shopping malls, property for sale, wedding advice in the wedding section, and much more. KZNDURBAN is not a business listing with categories such as Accommodation, Guest Houses, Hotels, plumbers, electricians, motor mechanics and the like. The problem with listings is that businesses are dynamic in nature and often the data-base making up the listing is out of date in a few months due to therm relocating or going out of business. The Accommodation industry has many websites catering to browsers looking for hospitality destinations such as Wheretostay, SA-Venues, Safari Now and Portfolio to name a few, so again KZNDURBAN has approached the concept from an entirely new angle. Advertising on a well visited online platform is a well used form of income, Google used adwords and Facebook uses banner adverts. News24.com and IOL all make use of banner advertising. KZNDURBAN offers the advertiser a banner advert option only as this attracts more attention than a listing, an example of this can be found on the Contact Us section of the site. Banner adverts are dynamic in nature being full colured and they also fade in and out and can carry a message, they also click though to the advertisers website thereby driving more online 'traffic' to their site which creates greater visibility for the business which translates into greater revenue. KZNDURBAN has been growing in visitor rate over the past few years and now it regularly experiences over 1 Million hits per month according to Webalizer which makes this site a very attractive place to book your banner advert, at a cost of R1500 per year, it makes it very affordable. If you own a small business, brokerage, shop, restuarant or guest house, there are many places applicable for you to advertise on this portal. Violence erupts between police and Malawians in Durban
Story by Nokuthula Khanyile

DURBAN - Public Order Police had to deploy stun grenades and rubber bullets to a crowd of disgruntled Malawian nationals camped at the Sherwood Hall transit site in Durban on Wednesday.

The Malawian nationals, many of them men, were refusing to be transported to the Lindela Repatriation Centre or move to the Durban beach front.

They say their frustration is that the women and children have been allowed to leave on buses to send them home while authorities have told them some of the men will be taken to the Lindela Repatriation Centre instead of their home country.

But authorities say the site at Sherwood Hall was beyond capacity and cannot hold the growing number of Malawians waiting to be processed and repatriated.

They want the group to move to a different location.

"We have been told to go to Malawi, why are they not taking us to Malawi now," one of the men said.

"They are putting us inside vans instead of putting us in busses."

The angry group carrying rocks, sticks and tree branches were chanting and pelting the police with stones and bottles.

The Justice Department said at least 1 876 of the 7, 000 Malawian nationals camped at the site have been found to be undocumented or otherwise illegally in the country. A virtual priority court has been set up to fast-track immigration process.

The Malawian government has also appealed for donations to support the repatriation of its nationals.

Missing Durban woman sparks search before family finds her fast asleep at home
Story by Gerry Cupido
A missing person search in Durban took an unexpected turn after a woman reported missing by her family was later found asleep in her own bed.

The incident was shared by Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), which said the family had contacted its operations centre last week after becoming concerned when they were unable to reach the 32-year-old woman.

According to RUSA, the family provided officers with a photograph and information about the woman, who had last been seen the previous evening.

A search effort was subsequently launched, with officers following up on leads while details were circulated on social media in an attempt to trace her whereabouts.

As concern grew, the family feared something may have happened to the woman after a phone call appeared to deepen their suspicions.

RUSA said the woman's cellphone was eventually answered, but relatives believed the voice on the other end sounded unfamiliar.

This led them to fear that someone else had possession of the phone and that the woman could have been in danger.

However, the search came to an abrupt end just hours later when the family contacted RUSA with an update.

The woman had been found inside the same home she shared with her relatives in eThekwini.

According to information provided by the family, she had simply overslept and had not responded to messages or calls.

When she eventually answered her phone, she was still groggy from sleep, causing her voice to sound different enough to alarm her relatives.

RUSA said the misunderstanding triggered panic among family members, who believed a criminal may have been holding the woman against her will.

Instead, the woman had unknowingly answered her own phone while still in a sleep daze, setting off a chain of events that resulted in a missing person report and a search operation.

While the incident ended on a light-hearted note, it also highlighted how quickly concerns can escalate when loved ones cannot be reached and communication appears unusual.

Fortunately, the woman was found safe and unharmed, bringing a swift end to what had briefly become a worrying situation for her family.
