🎤KABELO MATSUNYANE: “He’s on a target. This is a big step too, in my career. To have horses like him come up, to be such a nice horse after gelding, and he’s proven himself that he’s the type of horse I can compete with the big boys and we’re looking forward to his future. When those horses came to join me, I know I haven’t asked much of Wi******er Mansion, but I did get a little bit under pressure. But I just kept my composure and tried to keep calm and ride him as best as I can because I don’t want to be throwing my reins at him and too vigorous, because he’s the type of horse that last time, he actually cost the race, where he didn’t concentrate and he was hanging in. So today I just wanted to keep him as balanced as possible and I think that actually worked out to be more confident on the bit, and the more confident you are the more he give it to you. When I went for my stick, he actually gave me a very strong kick and he ran to the line very strong”.
🎤BRETT CRAWFORD: “I thought his debut run here, the first after he had been gelded, was outstanding. We were very confident today when he had shown enough progression at home. We spoke about putting the cheek pieces back on to help him focus more and that definitely worked today. He’s going to come in a race like the July, with bottom weight as a 4 year old, which time and time again has proven to be the right recipe”.
🎤GAYNOR RUPERT: “We’re extremely happy with him and also Trippi once again. We think he’s at his best now and we hope he’ll get into the July. We’re very nervous but also excited”.

🏆RAINBOW BRIDGE is HORSE OF THE YEAR🎉
🔹Winner of 2 of our country's most prestigious Grade 1 weight-for-age races, the Cape Town Met and Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge, Rainbow Bridge, has been crowned EQUUS Horse of the Year for 2020/2021.
🔹Rainbow Bridge also won the Grade 2 IOS Drill Hall Stakes and was 2nd in the Grade 1 L'Ormarins Queen's Plate and Grade 2 WSB Green Point Stakes, last December.
🔹The talented but at times, difficult son of Ideal World, struck up a winning partnership with jockey Luke Ferraris this past season.

🏆CELEBRATIONS FOR RAINBOW BRIDGE as he's crowned HORSE OF THE YEAR🎉

🔹Rainbow Bridge scooped not just 1, but 3 EQUUS Awards and the most coveted title of of all, Horse of the Year for the 2020/2021 racing season.
🔹For a horse who had not won an EQUUS Award up until last evening, he found his 'pot of gold' at the end of the rainbow!
🔹Rainbow Bridge also won Champion EQUUS Champion Older Male and EQUUS Champion Middle Distance.

🏆CONGRATULATIONS TO LYLE HEWITSON🎉
LYLE HEWITSON was officially crowned EQUUS Champion Jockey for 2020/2021 at the virtual Awards Ceremony this evening.
🔹It's was a 3rd Equus Championship for Lyle, who recorded 263 wins for the season.
🔹He was also the hardest working jockey having taken the most number of rides, but was rewarded with at 15.5% win strike rate.
🔹Lyle has already left to ride in Japan. We wish him all the best and that he flies the flag high!

🏆CONGRATULATIONS TO JUSTIN SNAITH🎉
JUSTIN SNAITH will be officially crowned EQUUS Champion Trainer for 2020/2021 at the Awards Evening tonight.
🔹He finished the season having amassed R15 848 725 in stakes and R3M ahead of the trainer in 2nd, Paul Peter , who won his first provincial title as Champion Trainer on the Highveld.
🔹Snaith Racing reached a milestone having recorded over 200 wins in a season for the first time. They had come close before with 198 in 2012, but it took another 8 seasons to break that elusive barrier.
🔹Congratulations to the team!

🔹The popular Suzette Viljoen will be officially crowned EQUUS Champion Owner for 2020/2021 at the Awards Evening tomorrow night.
🔹Having started out racing in Kimberley just 3 years ago, her rise to the top has been nothing short of dazzling. Her pink and blue colours have been carried to victory by Captain’s Ransom, Atyaab and others.
