Statement RE: The Pie and Samoosa Den
Subsequent to SANHA’s social media announcement pertaining to The Pie and Samoosa Den (see image attached), the owner has been inundated with calls and queries pertaining to their Halaal status and hence turned to the IWM with a request to clarify the matter for the purpose of complete transparency.
The Pie and Samoosa Den had been certified Halaal by SANHA for many years, since 2012, and contrary to the announcement by SANHA, certification was NOT terminated by mutual agreement. The issue arose when SANHA disapproved of the owner purchasing products from another Muslim owned butchery in Durban, Jolly Meats (certified by NIHT), and issued the owner with a warning to remove all ‘offensive’ products within 24 hours and failure to do so will result in the termination of certification. The owner then decided to cancel his contract with SANHA and turned to the IWM Halaal Division for certification.
At the IWM we promote Muslims supporting their fellow Muslims in the name of brotherhood and unity.
To those who have been spreading false messages regarding the Halaal status of this establishment, please note that The Pie and Samoosa Den is Muslim owned, Muslim managed and certified Halaal by the IWM Halaal Division.
