For me, the ELIDZ vision for green hydrogen has never been simply about attracting investors into a new and promising sector. It is about bringing the full impact of this sector to the people of the Eastern Cape. It must shape the qualifications our young people choose to pursue, the innovations and businesses that are opened, the kinds of jobs that become predominant in our economy, and the economic activities that take root in the Zone and beyond.

A successful conclusion to the SA Indigenous Knowledge and Biotrade Indaba 2026!

The final day was held at the ELIDZ Conference Centre and Science and Technology Park which featured an engaging panel discussion with ELIDZ Science and Technology Park Head, Ms Ludwe Macingwane who shared valuable insights on innovation, indigenous knowledge, and sustainable growth.

Young minds from a number of local schools explored the ELIDZ Science and Technology Park, Manufacturing Incubator, and Data Centre through educational tours, showcasing the facilities and technologies driving innovation in the Eastern Cape.

A fitting end to a week of collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

As part of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Programme, ELIDZ today visited The Kings Childrenโ€™s Home to hand over a donation of sporting and recreational equipment for the children.

The donation will support activities at the home, giving the children opportunities to take part in sport, recreation and outdoor activities.

For ELIDZ, supporting communities is about responding to needs in ways that can make a meaningful difference in peopleโ€™s everyday lives. Todayโ€™s visit to Kingโ€™s Childrenโ€™s Home was an opportunity to contribute towards creating moments of enjoyment for the children and supporting the environment in which they live.

Today, the ELIDZ-STP Consulting & Analytical Services (CAS) Laboratory joined the University of Fort Hare and the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) in commemorating International Microorganism Day 2026, held from 17 to 18 September at the University of Fort Hare's Alice Campus.

As part of the programme, the ELIDZ-STP CAS Laboratory exhibited and presented its work as a SANAS-accredited laboratory, showcasing the analytical services it provides to support industries, municipalities and communities in making informed, evidence-based decisions.

The laboratory offers a range of microbiological testing services, including the detection and identification of microorganisms in water and food samples, as well as food safety analysis to assess microbial contamination and support regulatory compliance.

The event created a valuable platform to engage with students, researchers, and industry stakeholders, while highlighting the important role microorganisms play in protecting public health, safeguarding water resources and supporting environmental sustainability.

Participating in this commemoration served as a reminder that science has the greatest impact when it extends beyond the laboratory, helping to address real-world challenges and improve lives, communities and the environment.

This is a meaningful recognition of the provinceโ€™s growing role in the emerging green hydrogen economy.

The Eastern Cape has unveiled its Green Hydrogen Strategy at the African Green Hydrogen Summit (AGHS) 2026 in Cape Town, setting out how the province intends to leverage its renewable energy and industrial advantages to attract investment, develop new industries, create jobs and strengthen its position in the emerging global green economy.

The Strategy is the product of collaboration between the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT), the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) and Nelson Mandela University (NMU). The partnership brings together government, technical expertise and academic knowledge to support a coordinated approach to green hydrogen development in the province.
