Having successfully rebranded GlueDevil some 10 years ago, Brando has had a happy ongoing relationship with the company since.

When COVID hit us, GlueDevil shifted the focus of a large part of their business to produce quality sanitizing liquids and gels - most being donated to the underprivileged and NPO’s like LIV Village.

Hot on the heels on the liquids and gels came their premium sanitizing aerosol sprays and foggers. Brando was very proud to be a part of the name development, identity and packaging design of these products.

Alcoholic beverages again! I think the universe is trying to tell me something😂

This time it’s Vaqua. A sparkling spring water based Vodka RTD. The brief was to design packaging that gives equal recognition to the purity of the vodka and spring water, and the vibrance of the flavour.

We created bright, bold, diamond-shaped graphics to highlight the flavour burst of each of the variants. The rest of the bottle was left largely untouched, and that was our nod to the purity of it.

The brand story we wrote says it best...
“Somewhere between the warm waves of Durban’s sun-kissed coastline and the rich artistic culture of Moscow, Vaqua was born.
Truly South African, but unashamedly inspired by some of Russia’s most famous exports, you’ll find triple distilled premium vodka in Vaqua.
A sparkling spring water based drink that’ll dance on your tongue as a refreshing splash of flavour reveals itself - like a nesting doll - again and again and again.”

Distilling is complex, honest, sometimes dirty work. And when The Gin Co says hand-crafted, they mean it.

This is a truly hands-on family business, with everyone getting stuck in because they’re passionate about what they do - making great gin.

So this concept design embraces that hard-working ethos and enthusiasm, bringing it to life with a graphic that tells you that every single bottle has been touched by the craftsman who made the gin.

For a series of handcrafted infused gins with short print runs, cost-saving was important. We designed a generic wraparound label in black & white, with an eye-catching silver hand print to peak curiosity and enhance the story told on pack. The smaller neck labels were varianted by colour to assist shopper navigation.

Air Team is a HVAC company with a dual focus. One side of the business specializes in Engineering & Maintenance, while the other by side focuses on Project Design, Development & Management. Each side has its own unique identity.

After we completed a successful rebrand for the Projects based business, Air Team asked us to design their brochures.

We designed a template that could be used across both businesses, differentiating them by bold blocks of brand colours, but uniting them through design layout. We then created a “back-to-back” brochure, saving on costs and giving potential clients of either business valuable exposure to the other.

As promised, here’s a look at the design that got the golden buzzer!🎉

The design is simple and premium, yet simultaneously fun and visually engaging. How we’ve managed to do that is by keeping the graphics bold and single-minded, but allowing the shape of the label to be strikingly different.

The citrus notes in your classic G&T is what inspired the shape of the new label - vibrant band of colour that wrap around the bottle in a spiral shape - much like a fresh twist of lemon peel.

The master distiller’s foiled signature is a personal touch that creates the very real impression that this is a drink crafted with care, passion and pride.

Let’s face it... G&T is a great drink all year round. But at the end of a long, lazy day on the beach, an ice-cold gin and tonic is the perfect sundowner for those summer vibes.

When The Gin Co decided to take their G&T On Tap into the bottled ready-to-drink market, they came to Brando with a packaging brief that aimed to tell a story about an “endless summer” - and the G&T that is an essential part of it.

From the simple, iconic graphics to the laid-back typography, we felt our first concept design did just that. The black - with a pop of vibrant, summer colour - enhanced the premium feel of a premium product, and would be a differentiator on shelf.

Although the Standeaven’s decided on a more traditional solution in the end, we’re still very proud of this design. Their product is flying off the shelf, so maybe they made the right call!

I haven’t given this page a lot of love lately. I’m not proud of this, but some might say I’ve been treating it like a red-headed stepchild😔. A red-headed stepchild with a nappy rash. But you know what’s good for a nappy rash? Le Bebe SPRAY-ON Baby Bum Cream, that’s what.

Your baby’s bum is, well, “as soft as a baby’s bum”. Which means it’s super delicate, and easily irritated by nasty little things like wet nappies.

A fun project I worked on for The Hardy Boys, Le Bebe Baby Bum Cream is the most gentle and hygienic way to prevent or cure a nappy rash, and is designed to disrupt the category on-shelf and appeal to daddies as much as mommies.

So now your little bundle can eat, drink, rock, roll and sleep in total comfort.

I’ve been on the Logo Design Train lately! Maybe that’s why I’ve been missing for so long😉. Anyway, I wanted to share a few very recent designs that made me (and clients) very happy...

AIR TEAM: A BEE driven business focusing on the design, engineering and installation of climate control systems for industry. The logo was inspired by traditional African shapes which came together to represent the duality of sun and a snowflake.

ESCAPE SOCIETY: A retail and online store specializing in premium travel accessories. The logo is inspired by the humble paper plane. In Japanese pop culture, paper planes - part of the ancient art of origami - represent carefree youth, whimsical ideas, freedom and adventure.

NALEDI: A local jewellery brand that was born in Botshabelo, creating sustainable employment for the community. The brand is steeped in tradition, yet projects a modern and hip urban persona. The same can be said for the Afro. In our logo, the Afro moonlights as a gem stone as well.

Gosh darn, it's been a while! And there's good reason. I've been working on big stuff. Big, top secret, Area 51-style stuff. Stuff I so desperately want to show you I could snap, crackle and POP! Hopefully soon-soon.

In the meantime, here's a fun little packaging and identity job I worked on for Robyn Wilk's The Biscuitry. It was for a range of frozen cookie dough, handmade and ready to bake. Although their core packaging is beautifully understated, she wanted this range to pop with colour as it was such a fun, hands-on addition to the family.

We don't think it disappoints😊

Recently completed identity and stationery design for the hair guru Brittany Weber (Jane is her middle name😉). There are only a handful of letters you can create a scissor monogram from, but hers were perfect! Job done. Great fun to work on, great client, great result (IMHO!). Thanks Brittany Jane!
