"UPDATE: Livestock for Livelihoods Programme

We're thrilled to share our progress on the "Livestock for Livelihoods Programme"!

Launched in March 2024, this initiative is part of a Three Year Enterprise Development Programme. The goal is to equip local sheep farmers with essential skills in:

› Sheep handling
› Business management
› Identifying high-value products like wool.

By achieving this, the aim is to increase household incomes and promote economic growth in our community.

To get started, Noupoort Data Analysts conducted data collection late 2022 to understand the sheep population, challenges, and needs in our community.

Phase one focused on building an educational foundation for our farmers. The team has been behind the preparations of training sessions facilitated by Peritum Agri Institute and National Wool Grower's Association for our farmers.

The trainings held in 2024, covered:

1. Financial Management (Manage Farm Finance). Our farmers gained essential skills to manage finances, make informed decisions, and drive business growth. (Peritum Agri Institute)

2. Regenerative Livestock Farming for Small Farmers. This training equipped farmers with sustainable practices to enhance soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, leading to improved livestock productivity and profitability. (Peritum Agri Institute)

3. Sheep Handling and Movement of Farm Animals. Farmers learned best practices for handling and moving sheep safely and efficiently, reducing stress and injury to both animals and handlers. (National Wool Grower's Association of South Africa)

4. Sheep Shearing. Our farmers acquired skills in proper sheep shearing techniques, ensuring better animal welfare, reduced stress, and improved wool quality. (National Wool Grower's Association)

5. Stock Fattening. This training taught farmers strategies for optimizing livestock nutrition, health, and growth, resulting in higher-quality animals and increased market value. (Peritum Agri Institute)

We're incredibly proud of our farmers for taking this crucial step!

Noupoort Data Analysts' journey began with the ME&R Training Programme funded by Noupoort Wind Farm.

After completing the programme, they've successfully undertaken data-capturing projects for SPELL IT, Karoo Fresh Eggs, Inclusive Neighbourhood Spaces, and the Noupoort Wind Farm Sport’s League.

NDA Accepted the challenge of donating book and plastic covers for all grade one learners in the local Schools, it was such an honor to be part of such an initiative.
