The text “I SHOT THE SERIF!” is a typography themed pun on the famous 1973 Bob Marley reggae song, “I Shot the Sheriff.”

In typography, a serif is the decorative flare or little "foot" at the ends of a letter's strokes like those seen in classic fonts like Times New Roman. Fonts without these feet are called sans-serif just like the Roboto font that was used serves as a perfect visual payoff for the joke.

Notice how the top-left of the gradient is a smooth, but drops rapidly into a sharp, luminous glow in the bottom right, before falling back off into a deep shadow at the very bottom.

This change in brightness mimics the way polished metal catches a studio light source. The African Brown with a deep, anchoring shade. Tussock has a luminous highlight that brings the gradient to life. Brick Light Brown has a warm, transitioning mid-tone. While the Punga is a shadowy undertone for rich contrast.

By combining these two definitions, the punchline turns a common hiring phrase into a literal description of a circle.

It’s a design pun on the classic Queen track, swapping out “having a hell of a good time” with Helvetica. It’s clean, it’s nerdy and it perfectly sums up how we feel when a project aligns beautifully.

Geometric fonts such as Helvetica naturally take up a lot of horizontal space due to their wide, circular properties, filling the entire graphic with the Bold weight would make the text block look cramped and illegible. Leaving the rest of the text in the Regular weight allows the canvas to breathe, preserving that modern, clean layout characteristic.

By introducing a sharp metallic neutral against rich, mossy tones, we created something that feels both deeply grounded and incredibly future-proof.
