Better Planning - how to stop work overload
You are overloaded, overcommitted, overextended and in deep trouble. Sounds familiar?
We’ve all been there one time or another, but if you are there constantly, then we hope this informative series of articles will help you out.
Today we are going to look at Why we find ourselves in a pickle - again.
Before looking at ways to solve this problem, we need to understand the cause. One reason is called ‘The Planning Fallacy’ and you can read the whole article here: http://bigthink.com/in-their-own-words/why-you-cant-plan
In short though - our estimates for how long any project or task will take is very bad. We base our estimates unrealistically on thinking there will be no problems, no bad traffic, and no delays. We see ourselves as superhumans and am often overconfident. We base our estimates on ‘the typical amount of time’, but forget that each project is unique with its own challenges. The more steps that are involved with a project or task, makes it even more likely to take an incorrect estimate of the time involved, and that is how you end up overloaded, overcommitted and running out of time, again and again.
Stay tuned for the remainder of our series, helping you with Better Planning.
For now, we’ll help you with one quick solution though: Use the services of a qualified accountant to help you save time when you are overcommitted.
