Carling Black Label required a refreshed look to their powerpoint template. We took what they had and created a presentation that was more visual and engaging, yet still kept the essence and messaging of the brand.

High res images allow for cropping and editing without compromising the clarity of the final result. Many companies have a data base of high res portfolio shots that can be used for company communication and can be supplied to outsourced designers. Alternatively, high res images can be purchased from stock websites. High res images are however, very large files which could potentially present a problem when working with multiple images.

While low res images are space savers, but as a rule, one should not use a low-resolution image for print or in a presentation. A low-resolution image will result in pixelation and a blurry image on your slides. This reflects badly on your brand as it looks unprofessional and careless.

This is why it is important to use the RIGHT SIZE image. If you can match your image to the area it will be used in (cropping considered), this will ensure that you are optimizing your presentation file size while still maintaining your image crispness. Use the slide dimensions when cropping or resizing your image so it will not be squashed or stretched. You can resize larger images in programs such as Adobe Photoshop to reduce the file size.

Remember to check the file size of your presentation when you have completed it. If you have a huge image inserted, you will have a large file size which could make your presentation slower and might stunt the flow of animations. A quick resizing of an image can save you from an embarrassing situation and guarantee a streamlined presenting process.

SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS AS A PUBLIC SPEAKER
Every single day there are speakers around the world either boring people to tears or wowing their audience. If you yourself are a speaker, then you want the reaction to be the latter. How is your audience reacting to you now?

No matter your response, there are always ways that you can improve your public speaking skills. In a world that is fast-paced and concentration levels are waning with the amount of information being thrown at your audience on a daily basis, you need to stay relevant and stick out from the rest. You do this by adding value to their lives. Be current, be relatable, be informative, be memorable and be valuable. You can become all of this by watching how other speakers structure their talks and present to their audiences.

In the video link below, you will be redirected to Julian Treasure’s TED talk. We found this talk particularly interesting because of the way he engages with his audience and helps them to remember his topic. We found the following patterns in the structure of his talk:
a. Julian introduces a problem that needs solving and makes these problems relatable for the audience.
b. He provides solutions with easy-to-remember acronyms and metaphors, e.g. HAIL and the Toolbox.
c. He asks for participation from the audience by mirroring his vocal warm-up exercises.
d. Then reiterates the problems mentioned in his introduction, and concludes with an easy-to-remember, simplified solution that summarizes his whole talk. This repetition is important to help his audience remember his message.

“you tell me to quite down cause
my opinions make me less beautiful
but i was not made with a fire in my belly
so i could be put out
i was not made with a lightness in my tongue
so i could be easy to swallow
i was made heavy
half blade and half silk
difficult to forget but
not easy for the mind to follow”

A poem by Rupi Kaur, Milk and Honey (2014)
