DADA MASILO 1985-2024
We are profoundly saddened by the passing at the age of 39 of our beloved friend and colleague Dada Masilo on 29 December after a brief illness. Joburg Ballet had the immense privilege of working with Dada during 2024, experiencing her creative force as a choreographer and her wisdom as a human being, and receiving the love and caring she radiated so generously. We hold her in our hearts and treasure the memories she left us. A brilliant light has been extinguished. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Dadaโ€™s family and friends. Rest in Peace Dada Masilo.

A warm welcome to distinguished South African choreographer ๐•๐ž๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ข๐œ๐š ๐๐š๐ž๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ who is in Johannesburg to stage her ๐‹๐š ๐“๐ซ๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐š๐ญ๐š-๐“๐ก๐ž ๐๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ญ for Joburg Ballet. Cape Town-based Veronica Paeper is acclaimed as ๐’๐€โ€™๐ฌ ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐œ๐ก๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐ก๐ž๐ซ working in the classical style. Based on the 19th century courtesan known as the Lady of the Camellias, La Traviata tells the story of a woman who sacrifices all for the man she loves. The music is adapted for the ballet from Verdiโ€™s immortal La Traviata.
