Project: Energade - Step up your game👟

Client: Levergy/M&C Saatchi/ICC

Brief: Create a commercial to promote Energade’s new bottle label using Wayde Van Niekerk.

Solution: The idea of using Wayde Van Niekerk and his inspiring story of overcoming his early challenges in his career came from client, though they had imagined using old photos of Wayde in the ex*****on. We suggested casting a child actor to play a young version of Wayde knowing that it would be far more dynamic as a moving piece. The original narrative featured only shots of Young Wayde preparing to sprint, and would then have revealed present-day real Wayde as he takes off, which we still believe would’ve made for a stronger commercial. But the Energade client wanted to see more of the big name they were paying for and so we ended up with the edit you see. We like to think of narrative as king, but it’s business, and you don’t always get your way. Still looks damn pretty👏🏽
