With our belts being squeezed more tightly with our latest petrol hike today, I thought I would share some tips I looked up on how to save fuel:

1. Drive slower - but not like Miss Daisy
2. Check your tyres every two weeks - soft tyres contribute to higher fuel consumption.
3. Air-con vs open windows - If you are driving short distances, open the window, as the short and slower distance causes the air-con to increase fuel consumption. Use the air-con when you are driving longer distances and at a higher speed - it is all to do with the revs and the air-con working more efficiently on higher revs.
4. Avoid harsh braking - keep a safe following distance and predict what is happening ahead of you. This is a challenge on our roads, at the best of times.
5. Try avoid congestion - this may be impossible but if you are a rep and have to see clients, try making your appointments out of peak traffic.
6. Avoid idling your car - start up and go. If you are sitting in traffic, switch off and start up.
7. See what your bank or insurance institute offers in terms of fuel rewards - get some moola back!
8. Carpool - with good music.
9. Have your car serviced regularly.
10. Take off your roof rack if not in use.
11. Fill your tank in the morning if you can.
12. Do not leave excess items in your car, more weight causes more fuel consumption. So take out those golf clubs, or your mother-in-law?

Throughout my years in sales and marketing I have always maintained that building relationships is the best way to maintain and grow business and this post from forbes.com portrays this so simply. Take the time to understand your client, and what is needed for them to grow their business. If you can have a firm understanding of how your client's business operates and what would be the best method for them to reach their target audience you will have a client for life. Listen more, speak less - that is why we two ears and one mouth.

Every aspect of effective marketing can be distilled down to one thing: relationships.

In business, as in life, one will not necessarily be remembered for what one has to offer, how one looks or what one can give, but rather how one makes another feel. This brings in the likeability factor, are you using emotive content to raise your brand awareness and create a likeable brand or are you a conventional marketer using rational content?

In the the link below from Marketing Profs you will see an interesting infographic by USC Dornsife College that may sway your mindset to a more emotive campaign.

Here's a look at the psychology of ads, including some tips marketers can use to make your ads stand out in a crowded space.

Today I attended a seminar, and in closing the speaker read a quote of Charles Darwin, 'It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change'.

Are you ready for a change in your marketing plan? Will you be receptive to intelligent methods of reaching your audience?

Be receptive to change, it's happening faster than you can say SEO!
