I was in Europe last year summer and went pass Portugal for a pre set up of the Afro-Nations concert, to my surprise Amapiano is huge there! This is supported by Stats, Amapiano had over 1.9 billion streams in 2022. Now new-comer and Grammy award winning Tyla latest offering shattered records with an unprecedented 7.3 million streams on its first day on Spotify, setting a new standard for African female artists. Here’s a write up I did on why Amapiano shouldn’t be ignored by corporations and brands.

Amapiano to World by Foshizi | Mar 12, 2024 | Knowledge Hub | 0 comments The global popularity of South African artists and music is on the rise, opening up significant opportunities for creators on an international scale. Amapiano, the homegrown South African genre, has seen tremendous growth, with...

Today we were finally invited to present our Township Consumer Lockdown Research Report to the Gauteng COVID-19 Command Team and it was well received. Key strategic people such as Doctors and Professors in the Government heard what the consumer is going through.

Lots of questions were asked to better understand the findings since it was an independent study. Reception was phenomenal and the delegates thoroughly enjoyed the nuisance, the rawness of the feedback and the practical recommendations presented.

We couldn’t go through all 47 pages of the report, so we reduced our objectives to twofold:
1) to make them understand what is the motivation behind certain behaviours in the times of Covid-19. Secondly, to delve into the various challenges facing consumers at the Bottom of the Pyramid (BOP), within of course the context of the global pandemic, National Lockdown and consumer healthcare.

One of the key findings that got their attention was that, all the safety protocol measures about coronavirus, go against everything about Ubuntu: from socializing, supporting each other, togetherness, strength in numbers to community is all prohibited.

Another insight that hooked them, as that à Whilst primary attention was given to formal retailers in the beginning of the lockdown as essential services, street vendors, who often sell nutritionally dense food at an affordable prices, were removed from the equation at this very critical time, where those at grass roots level in fact needed access to affordable nutrition as Street vendors couldn’t trade.
