Southern African Marketing Research Association (SAMRA) The Southern African Marketing Research Association is a professional body of individuals and organisations engaged in every aspect of research.

SAMRA's main aims are to:

- Ensure the maintenance of professional standards
- Provide members with an educational, information and social forum for the promotion of research
- Represent the interests of the research profession in the wider society
- Promote the professional image and good standing of research in our society

SAMRA is managed by a Board elected in terms of its Memorandum of Incor

poration. The SAMRA Board is supported by a professional secretariat. SAMRA adopted the ICC/ESOMAR Code of Conduct in 2008. For further information please go to esomar.org

SAMRA is owned by its members, who have set additional goals for the Association. These include:

- Promotion of research based on sample surveys and other techniques.
- Protection of research from influences that might detract from its empirical basis.
- Elimination of unethical research practices, principally through our Code of Conduct.
- Promotion of the highest attainable standards in the profession.
- Promotion of education and training, including ongoing learning, in research.
- Improvement of awareness, image and the salience of research in society.
- Encouraging the development of research and constant improvement of research techniques.

Essentially, the task of Council members is to ensure that SAMRA achieves its objectives. More specifically, the Council's Strategy is to achieve those objectives through:

- Setting standards for individual research practice.
- Educating individuals in the practice and use of research.
- Endorsing and recognizing research practice that reflects SAMRA's high standards.
- Creating opportunities for members to reflect on research and debate issues.
- Encouraging innovation, creativity and growth of the industry.
- Fostering dialogue between researchers and role-players in society at large.
- Promoting the strategically important role of research in the economy.
