How does the Instagram algorithm work for brands in 2026? 🤔

According to Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, there isn’t one algorithm. Feed, Stories, Reels and Explore each rank content differently. Instagram predicts how likely people are to watch your post to the end, share it with a friend, comment or like it, and then gives each post a relevance score. Recency also matters, so feeds stay roughly chronological.

What this means for your brand:
✅ Posting more won’t increase your reach
✅ Use Reels and Explore to reach new audiences
✅ Use Stories and Feed to engage your existing followers
✅ Hook viewers fast and keep videos short so they watch to the end
✅ Create content worth sending to a friend
✅ Post consistently, because fresh content gets prioritised
