With great design, comes great briefs!
Ever wondered why some design projects feel like magic, while others miss the mark? Often, the secret is in the brief! A great brief is like a roadmap for your designer, it gets everyone on the same page and points the project in the right direction from day one.
Want to write a brief that gets you results? Here’s what to include 👇
• The Big Picture: Tell us about your business and what you do. What's the story behind this project?
• Your Main Goal: What’s the one thing you want this design to achieve? More sales? Better brand recognition? Let's be specific!
• Your Audience: Who are we talking to? The more we know about them, the better we can connect.
• Your Core Message: If people remember only one thing, what should it be?
• The Vibe: What's the personality you want to show? Fun and friendly? Corporate and serious?
• Who Else is Out There: Who are your competitors? Knowing who they are helps us make you stand out.
• What You Need: List exactly what you’re wanting to have designed (e.g. a logo, a brochure, social media graphics).
• The Practical Stuff: Be upfront about your budget and key deadlines.
• The Words (Copy): Provide all text for the design, fully edited and final. This includes headlines, body copy, contact details, social media handles, and website info. Having final copy ready prevents delays and avoids endless back-and-forth revisions.
• Your Brand Kit: Share all your visual assets. This includes high-resolution logos, colour codes, and any high-quality images you want to use. Providing print-ready assets from the start is key!
• What You Love: Show us examples of other designs you like. It helps us see what you're imagining!
• Who's in Charge: Let us know who the main contact is for feedback and final sign-off.
A little extra time on your brief saves a lot of time (and headaches!) later, and it’s the best way to ensure you get a design you’ll love.
