Repo rate cut what does it mean on my home Loan?

Lets say you have a home loan of R1mill for 20 years at the current prime rate of 8.75% you would be paying R8 837pm. With the new rate of 7.75% this would reduce your monthly payments to R8 209pm saving you R628pm.

Now it would be great to have that R628 to spend on yourself but we know it will go to silly spends that are not all that beneficial to you.

If you ask your bank to keep your rate at 8.75% and continue paying R8 827pm you would pay of your bond 36 months (3 years) early so instead of a 20 year bond you have reduced it to 17 years from just an extra R628pm.

If you had have requested your bank to leave your rate at the 9.75% in March you could have your bond paid off in just under 15 years.

Speak to you bank to keep your intrest rate the same.
