According to a recent Whitespark study highlighted by Search Engine Journal, AI Overviews now appear for 68% of local searches. Local packs appear for just 39%.

For local businesses, the opportunity is increasingly about being the best answer, not simply having the best ranking.

Your Google Business Profile location and website need to do more than repeat your keywords and swap in a city name.

They need:

Every few months, marketing gets a new "must-have."
Right now, it's llms.txt.

The theory is simple: create a special file to help AI understand your website.

But based on data shared by Alli AI, major AI platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google don't appear to be requesting these files in any meaningful way... at least not yet.

Does that mean you shouldn't have one?
Not necessarily.

But it does mean you probably shouldn't stop everything to add one. Sure, add your llms.txt but please don't expect it to move the needle. It does take a little more effort than that.

If your website uses Cloudflare, it's worth checking your settings before 15 September.

Cloudflare is changing how AI crawlers are handled, and depending on your configuration, you could unintentionally stop Google, ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI tools from accessing your website.

That doesn't just affect AI.
It could affect how your business is discovered in search.

The good news? It's usually a simple settings check.

If you're using Cloudflare, take a few minutes to review your bot management settings and make sure legitimate search and AI crawlers are still allowed.

The last thing you want is to spend time creating great content... only to stop the very platforms you're trying to be found on from reading it.
